Still Waters Revival Books has performed an astonishing feat in pulling together a massive collection of books and other resources.

Let me tell you how absolutely fantastic the Puritan Hard Drive really is.

This is a treasure trove for a local church pastor.

The search ability is beyond my expectation.

I was just on the island of Iona where Columba established a missionary outpost sending evangelists all over Britain.  Searching the hard drive for "Columba" added much to my understanding of this great leader through the eyes of Spurgeon and many others.

Thank you so much... for going to the trouble to make this available.

I am greatly improved by it and I anticipate the pace of worldwide reformation to be improved as well.

I blogged about it here: http://www.ncfic.org/weblogmodule/view/id/805/src/@random493e73d2154bd/

Below is the blog post from the link above:

On my way across the ocean to study the reformation with Doug Phillips, I did not have a suitcase of books as I usually do. I was lamenting that fact at the airline ticket counter and my daughter Claudia said to me, "Papa, close your eyes and step into the new world." Well, let me confess: on my computer I have approximately 13,000 puritan and reformed books which I have acquired through my son downloading ebooks and a gigantic collection put together by Reg Barrow from Still Waters Revival Books. I am now like Abdul Kassem Ismael, Grand Vizier of Persia who, in the tenth century, carried his library with him wherever he went. The 117,000 volumes were carried by 400 camels which were trained to walk in alphabetical order.

- Pastor Scott Brown (M.Div.), Hope Baptist Church (NC, USA, http://www.hopebaptistchurch.info), Director of the National Center for Family Integrated Churches (NCFIC, http://www.ncfic.org/), and Conference Speaker (who speaks at conferences alongside other Reformed ministers like Joel Beeke, Paul Washer, Doug Phillips, Jeff Pollard, et al. http://www.ncfic.org/gcm-speakers)

NASH, RONALD

Word of God and the Mind of Man: The Crisis of Revealed Truth in Contemporary Theology (1982, 1992 ed.)
Nash writes, "The views I explain and defend in this book are an important foundation of what has been the mainstream of evangelical thinking about divine revelation and religious epistemology since the end of World War II. It is the first book that attempts to trace this position back to its roots; a systematic examination of the theoretical foundations and historical development of this position is not available elsewhere
. Since many Evangelicals are beginning to drift from the former consensus about the indispensability and legitimacy of a belief in cognitive or propositional revelation, a fresh examination of this view and its major competition can be helpful at this particular time in the history of the church." Nash covers many of the "heavy hitters" of Christian and non-Christian philosophy, past and present (including a chapter on "The Christian Rationalism of St. Augustine"), in his defense of propositional revelation.

NAVE'S TOPICAL BIBLE

"Nave's Topical Bible, the best known of all topical bibles, has been a valuable Bible-study reference and a best-seller for more than 75 years. It is a comprehensive digest of over 20,000 topics and sub-topics with more than 100,000 associated Scripture references. The most significant references for each topic actually include the full text of the verse cited (and all verses are from the King James Version of the Bible--RB) -- saving the need to separately look up each verse. Because Nave's groups verses by 'idea' (or 'topic'), it offers a better overview of relevant Scriptures than a concordance, which only lists or indexes verses according to specific words. This edition also includes the helpful Scripture index (left out of some other editions), which makes it possible for the reader studying a particular biblical text to locate every topic and grouping of Scripture in Nave's whenever a particular verse is included. That way, it is possible for the reader to study either all the verses related to a particular topic or all the topics related to a particular verse -- it works both ways. For the pastor or teacher interested in saving hours of time but not willing to give their second best, and for anyone wanting to be challenged by what God has to say about a given subject, Nave's Topical Bible is the passport that will allow immediate and successful entry to the many points of interest" (back cover). 1615 pages, indexed.

NEEDLER, BENJAMIN

God is Not to Be Worshipped as Represented By an Image (1675, reprinted 1845)
Demonstrates that "(i)t is not lawful to give religious worship to any creature whatsoever. It is not lawful to make an image of God. It is not lawful to worship God as represented by and image, or to direct our worship of Him to an image. It is not lawful to worship images, by doing it corporally, as idolaters do, though we pretend to keep our hearts to God. The Papist presumptuously leave the second commandment our of the decalogue."

NESS, CHRISTOPHER

An Antidote Against Arminianism (1700)
Recommended by John Owen, John Gill, and Augustus Toplady. An easy-to-read but devastating critique of the Arminian heresy. A treatise to refute all five points of Arminianism, setting forth predestination and the five points of Calvinism clearly and forcefully, along with numerous Scripture proofs. "As blessed Athanasius sighed out in his day," writes Ness, "the world is overrun with Arianism;' so it is the sad sigh of our present times, the Christian world is overrun, yea, overwhelmed with the flood of Arminianism; which cometh, as it were, out of the mouth of the serpent, that he might cause the woman (the Church) to be carried away of the flood' thereof (Rev. 12:15). And lest this overflowing deluge of Arminianism should bring destruction upon us, there is great need that some servants of Christ should run to stop the further spreading of this plague and leprosy." This book will be a great help in containing the contagion of this devilish delusion!

NESS, CHRISTOPHER

A Protestant Antidote Against the Poison of Popery
An extremely rare book -- this is a facsimile of the 1679 edition. Very pertinent today, seeing that Rome is renewing its energies (by the power of the beast) for prosecuting the battle to destroy the souls of the unwary ó and enslave the nations with her lies and tyranny. Using social action to dupe Protestants today, this book should help put a stop to any such foolishness. Ness is a hard-hitting author, here proving the religion of the church of Rome to be superstitious, idolatrous, damnable, bloody, novel, inconsistent with public peace, and irreconcilable to true Christianity. John Knox would put it this way: "Corporately, the Roman church is 'the mother of confusion' and the 'harlot of Babylon' or, to use somewhat blunt language, 'the synagogue of Satan.' The adherents of Rome are simply known as papists of infidels; there is no need to become confused over specialized terminology on this point, since ëall papists are infidels.' Their chief offence is idolatry, especially by means of ëthat idol and bastard service' the Mass" (cited in Kevin Reed, John Knox..., p. 191).

NEVIN, ROBERT

Instrumental Music in Christian Worship (1873)
Nice, moderately short (87 pages of smaller type) refutation of this Popish innovation! Nevin's irenic book refutes many of the major arguments against instruments in public worship, but also, because it was written in answer to a contemporary writer, covers some arguments not dealt with in other books of this nature.

NEVIN, ROBERT

Instrumental Music in the Worship of God
An excellent short introduction to this subject. Defends the regulative principle of worship, proves that the use of instruments in the Old Testament was ceremonial, answers some major objections from instrumentalists, and explains why this is not a trivial matter.

NEWTON, ISAAC

Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel (1831)
As Spurgeon noted "the author's name will always keep this book in repute." He was not so flattering concerning the remainder of his comments, though likely referring to the author's work on the book of Revelation (which is not bound in with this commentary on Daniel). 265 pages.

NEWTON, THOMAS

Dissertations on the Prophecies Which Have Remarkably Been Fulfilled, and at this Time are Fulfilling in the World (2 volumes, 1817)
The author defends the historicist position of eschatology. Historicism teaches that a number of the prophecies of Scripture, and especially those in the book of Revelation, will be seen to be fulfilled throughout history. The specific prophetic fulfillments in question (for example what does the "beast" or "the mother of harlots" in Revelation 17 refer to?) are not seen to be past (as in the Preterist system) or future (as in the Futurist system); neither are they spiritualized to refer to general ideas (of good versus evil) without specific historic fulfillment (as in the Typico-Spiritual system). These eschatological designations hold true generally speaking, although historicists recognize that certain prophetic portions of scripture (e.g. Matt. 24) contain elements that were fulfilled in the past. The historicist position was ensconced in all the substantial Reformed confessions (including the preamble to the Decrees of Dort [1618-19] and the Westminster Confession of Faith [1647]); and no major Reformed Confession has ever taken the Preterist or Futurist position (which is not surprising, since both of these positions, as systems, originated with the Jesuits). Historicism was the position held by almost all the Reformers including Luther, Calvin and Knox. Speaking of this book, Newton notes that his purpose "is not to treat of the prophecies in general, not even of those prophecies in particular which were fulfilled in the person and actions of our Saviour; but only of such as relate more immediately to these latter ages, and are in some measure receiving their accomplishment at this time." His hope is that "the work will prove the more generally acceptable, as it will not consist merely of abstract speculative divinity, but will be inlivened with a proper intermixture of history, and will include several of the most material transactions from the beginning of the world to this day." Daniel, of course, receives a good amount of treatment, as well as the man of sin, the great apostasy and "Our Saviour's prophecies relating to the destruction of Jerusalem" (which historicists have always "preterized," or recognized as past). This book also covers the whole book of Revelation. Twelfth edition, indexed, 439 (vol. 1) and 440 pages (vol. 2).

NONCONFORMIST MINISTERS

Farewell Sermons of Some of the Most Eminent of the Nonconformist Ministers Delivered at the Period of Their Ejectment By the Act of Uniformity in the Year 1662 (1816 edition)

Originally printed in two volumes, in 1662 and 1663, this is the later (1816) one volume edition. It includes 24 of the original 31 sermons and an historical and biographical preface. These sermons are some of the most heartfelt sermons that you may ever encounter, as well as an excellent example of Puritan preaching at its finest. Thomas Manton, Thomas Watson, William Jenkyn, Richard Baxter, Thomas Brooks, Thomas Case, and a number of other famous Puritans all have their farewell sermons to their congregations included in this book. The stands taken by these ministers brought loss of income, loss of earthly comforts, persecution and even death -- thus the topics they dwelt upon are of great importance to Christians of all ages. 465 pages.

NORTH, GARY

Campus Crusade For Christ: A Critique
One of Gary North's early writings recently unearthed from the "Dead Sea" of pamphlets. A rare gem by North, first published in 1972, blasting the serpent's humanistic teaching of "free will" -- as it finds expression in our modern day setting! In it, North argues that Bill Bright and his organization (Campus Crusade), because they are Arminian and thus at variance with Scripture and the historic Christian creeds, are heretical. Written before North had "mellowed" with age, every page literally sizzles. With Dr. North's kind permission we can now bring this guided missile to public view once again. It also includes an interesting recommended bibliography showing what Dr. North was suggesting as reading material in the "early days." Fasten your seat belt if you venture to order this piercing and poignant critique of 29 pages.
