"I have been systematically working through reading the...
Reformed CDs I purchased. I must say, there is nothing like them available
anywhere. It is the most amazing collection of works I know of in one package
to date... The Puritan
and Reformed material presented on these CDs is exceptional. I am continually
amazed at the depth and breadth of information in both collections, and the
rarity of works that I now have at my fingertips. You have done an immeasurable
service for the Kingdom of Christ in making these CDs available, and every pastor
and theologian should own them without question (they would be foolhardy to
pass them by) ... more"

"This collection of 62 CDs is a truly astounding
accomplishment. There is nothing like this available to the ordinary Christian
on the whole face of the earth. Now, for the first time ever, ordinary Christians can have
direct and near effortless access to the very cream of Puritan and
Reformed, as well as Covenanter, literature... What they used to say of the
Puritan John Flavel's preaching, can be said of these CDs: they are 'hissing
hot'! ... more" (emphases added).

NEW CALVIN TAPES -- FIRST TIME EVER ON CASSETTE!
CALVIN, JOHN
Shunning the Unlawful Rites of the Ungodly and Preserving
the Purity of the Christian Religion
Herein Calvin maintains the sinfulness of outward conformity to
false worship. Dealing
with a major problem of his day, Calvin answers the question, "Is it
lawful for a person who has renounced Popery in his heart to conform outwardly
to its rites, for the purpose of avoiding persecution, or for any other
cause?" He shows that
false worship should never be tolerated or participated in (even by your bodily
presence), no matter what the cost -- whether it be persecution, exile, or
death. For his
faithfulness in this matter, he was greatly scorned. Obvious parallels to our
day abound, not the least of which include the Lordship controversy, false
ecumenism, rampant idolatry in the false rites maintained in the public worship
of apostate Protestantism, and in the rise of Roman Catholic harlot. A good
related item is Bradford's The Hurt of Hearing Mass ($US2.94).

McFEETERS, J.C.
Sketches of the Covenanters (1913)
Stirring accounts of sacrifice and martyrdom for the Reformed
Faith that will bring tears to eyes of all but the most backslidden. Follows the chain of events which gave
Scotland two Reformations and a Revolution. John Knox, the National Covenant, The Solemn League and
Covenant, the Westminster Assembly, the Field Meetings (conventicles) and the
"Killing Times," and much more are all covered. The history of many great battles for
Christ and His royal rights are accurately recounted in this moving chronicle of
Reformation struggles and martyrdom. These accounts of men, women and children who were willing to
die for the truth of Christ's Kingship over all things are as amazing and
edifying as any you will ever read!
This book also sheds much light upon the warfare of Christ's bride
(with the dragon) for true Scriptural liberty, while telling the moving story
of some of the most prominent and/or faithful Christians (Rutherford, Renwick,
Cameron, Cargill, "the Society People," et al.) since the days of the Apostles. This is one of our best history books,
and is highly recommended! It is great for home schooling, history classes and
various other learning situations, as it contains convenient review questions
at the end of each chapter.
Furthermore, it is written
in an easy-to-read and engaging style, which makes it one of the best introductions to the Covenanters
and the periods of the first and second Reformations in the British Isles that
is available. 412 pages.

RENWICK, JAMES
Christ Sifting His Church
Classic Covenanter preaching (by the last Covenanter martyr)
explaining (in great detail) why
God sometimes, even often (during the 1260 years of the great apostasy in which
we now live), brings extreme suffering and persecution upon His church. This is a great example of the
deep-thinking and practical preaching that the killing times in Scotland
produced. Such preaching, which took place at conventicles (field meetings)
under the constant threat of Royalist attack (and the possibility of instant
martyrdom) makes most preaching today look like a sickly and pathetic imitation
of what must have been taking place under the apostles (and among some of the
early Christians) when they were constantly facing threats of persecution and
martyrdom from Rome. This is
a meaty meal, great for those who desire an understanding of God's mysterious
providential dealings with men, containing much encouragement for those
undergoing trials. This
sermon is read by Elder Lyndon Dohms from A Choice Collection of Very Valuable Prefaces, Lectures, and
Sermons Preached Upon the Mountains and Muirs of Scotland In the Hottest Times
of the Late Persecution By that Faithful Minister and Martyr of Jesus Christ
the Reverend Mr. James Renwick (1776 ed.)

RENWICK, JAMES
A Choice Collection of Very Valuable Prefaces, Lectures,
and Sermons Preached Upon the Mountains and Muirs of Scotland In the Hottest
Times of the Late Persecution By that Faithful Minister and Martyr of Jesus
Christ the Reverend Mr. James Renwick
(1776 ed.)
Another very rare item of over 600 pages. Carefully collected and faithfully
transcribed from several manuscripts, these pages exhibit some of the reasons
why Renwick sealed his testimony with his blood. Houston notes that these sermons were preached "in the
Coventicles, in the fields, amidst all dangers and incidents of weather, and by
night as well as by day." They
set forth the amazing grasp of truth that this young martyr for Christ was
granted. "Renwick's
sermons," writes Hay Fleming, "show that he was a faithful preacher of the Gospel; and those
who had realized in their own experience that it was the power of God unto
salvation were anxious at all hazards to listen to the Word when proclaimed by
such a devoted and fearless messenger" (Story of the Scottish Covenant in Outline [$US3.99 P; $14.00 HP]). Furthermore,
Houston says of these sermons, "They were not prepared with any view to
future publication; and the trying circumstances in which their devoted author
was placed, wholly prevented any correction or revisal. Yet they contain not only remarkably
clear expositions of the word, and a full exhibition of the scheme of
salvation, but also many passages which, for searching application to the
conscience, and moving eloquence, are unsurpassed in the discourses of eminent
preachers either in ancient or modern times" (Life of Renwick, p. 17 [$US4.49 P; $19.00 HP]).

REFORMED PRESBYTERY
An Explanation and Defence of the Terms of Communion,
Adopted by the Community of Dissenters, etc.
Defends the inescapable necessity of creeds and confessions,
while promoting a fully creedal church membership. Shows how the law of God obliges all
Christians "to think the same things, and to speak the same things;
holding fast the form of sound words, and keeping the ordinances as they have
been delivered to us" (Col. 3:13).
After laying some basic groundwork, this book proceeds to defend
the six points of the "Terms of Ministerial and Christian Communion Agreed
Upon by the Reformed Presbytery." These six points are the most conservative and comprehensive
short statements of consistent Presbyterianism you will likely ever see. Besides the obvious acknowledgement of
the alone infallible Scriptures, the Westminster Standards, and the divine
right of Presbyterianism, these points also maintain the perpetual obligation
of our Covenants, National and Solemn League, the Renovation of these covenants
at Auchensaugh in 1712, and the Judicial Act, Declaration and Testimony emitted by the Reformed Presbytery.
In short, this book sets forth adherence to the whole of
the covenanted reformation, in both church and state, as it has been attained
by our covenanting forefathers.

STEELE, DAVID
Notes on the Apocalypse (1870)
In 1779, in their Testimony
and Warning Against the Blasphemies and Idolatry of Popery, the Reformed Presbytery called Durham's
Complete Commentary... On the Book of Revelation [$39.98, 2 vol. rare bound photocopy],
"the best exposition of
that book that has yet been published" (p. 61n). Had they had the privilege of reading Steele's Notes
on the Apocalypse we are
quite certain that they would have given it a similar endorsement. Though
written in a different style than Durham's work, Steele's notes on Revelation
may be even more valuable in many respects -- Steele having taken a more
decided position "in the wilderness." Steele also had the benefit of many more resources,
having written over two centuries later. Steele's aim in writing this book is made clear in his own words
taken from the preface,
As this
work is intended for the instruction and edification of the unlearned, rather
than for the entertainment of the learned, words of foreign extract are used as
seldom as possible. Practical remarks and reflections are rarely introduced; the principal aim being simply to
ascertain and present to the reader the mind of the Holy Spirit. How far this object has been
accomplished, is of course left to the judgment of the honest inquirer. The
reader, however, in forming his judgment of the value of these Notes, may be
reminded of that inspired rule in searching the Scriptures,--"Comparing
spiritual things with spiritual." To assist him in the application of this
divine rule, many chapters and verses are quoted from other parts of the Bible,
but especially within the Apocalypse itself; that by concentrating the various
rays upon particular texts or symbols, their intrinsic light may be rendered
more luminous. Thus the interpretation given, if correct, may be confirmed and
illustrated.
Appendices include a section on, The New Jerusalem, The Antichrist, The
Image of the Beast, The Beast's "deadly wound," The Little Book, The
Death of the Witnesses, The Mark of the Beast, The First Resurrection, The
Identity of the Two Witnesses, Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet and The Title of
this Book (i.e. the Book of Revelation--RB).
This work also includes various "animadversions on the interpretations (of
Revelation--RB) of several among the most learned and approved expositors of
Britain and America."
Comments on this work include the four given below, all which were
given without the solicitation or knowledge of the author. The Evangelical
Repository notes, "the author adduces a greater number of
Scriptural illustrations than any other writer on prophecy we ever met with." Hutcheson writes, "I can recommend it to any person as
condensing the best thoughts to be had on the subject." Brooks says, "I have derived more knowledge of the
Apocalypse from this work than from all other expositions which I have
consulted." And
finally, John Cunningham comments, "It is neither a dictionary nor concordance; neither a confession
of faith, nor an encyclopedia, but a thesaurus of Theology, embodying the
characters of all these."
Steele dedicated this work to John Cunningham, author of The Ordinance of
Covenanting ($14.99 P,
$29.00 HP). 323 pages.

Unlawful Taxation &
Unlawful Civil Government
(Mark #60 [Mark 12:13-17], 2001)
It gives biblical guidelines concerning what the Bible teaches
about paying taxes and
introduces Scriptural teaching on how to tell if a particular civil government
is lawful or unlawful. The classic Knoxian/Covenanter position defended here
will certainly hold some surprises for most modern Christians. For much more on
this subject see Greg Price's book Biblical Civil Government Versus the
Beast and the Basis for Christian Resistance (http://www.swrb.com/newslett/FREEBOOK/GPrice.htm). This sermon reached #1 at
sermonaudio.com less than two days after it was first preached!

Reformed Presbytery in North America (RPNA)
The Meeting Reconstituting the Reformed Presbytery in North
America (RPNA) (Aug. 5, 2000)
As of August 5, 2000 (and FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 113 YEARS) a
Reformed Presbyterian (Covenanter) PRESBYTERY exists which embraces the faithful biblical attainments of the best
Churches of both the first and second Reformations (Phil. 3:16). In accordance with Scriptural doctrine of the Church, the
"Deed of Constitution for the Reformed Presbytery in North America"
(RPNA) states,
We do
sincerely profess that it is the glory of God, the edification of Christ's
Church, as well as the preservation and promotion of the true Christian
religion throughout the whole world that does persuade us to unite in
constituting this Presbytery.
We do
voluntarily promise to be subject in the Lord unto the Reformed Presbytery In
North America; to promote and to preserve the doctrine, worship, government,
and discipline as summarized in the above cited "Six Terms Of
Ecclesiastical Communion" (http://www.swrb.com/newslett/actualnls/6points.htm -- RB); and to receive with meekness all
brotherly counsel and admonition tendered by fellow members of this Presbytery.
We do
not consider the Reformed Presbytery In North America to be an entirely new
entity, but rather a continuation of the one moral person with other covenanted
judicatories of the past, and with those faithful witnesses of the Covenanted
Reformation known as Protesters and Society People (1650-1742 inclusive).
Accordingly, when we refer above to our "Constitution", we include
within it all the judicial documents comprehended and engaged unto in our
"Six Terms Of Ecclesiastical Communion ( http://www.swrb.com/newslett/FREEBOOK/RefConf.htm -- RB)" -- specifically, only those
documents which are agreeable to the Word of God, and consistent with our
covenanted attainments, as they were formally received and approved by the
following covenanted judicatories between the following inclusive dates:
1. The
Church Of Scotland (1560-1602, 1638-1649).
2. The
Reformed Presbytery In Scotland (1743-1808), and the Synod Of The Reformed Presbyterian
Church In Scotland (1809-1821).
3. The
Reformed Presbytery In Ireland (1763-1779, 1782-1810), and the Synod Of The
Reformed Presbyterian Church In Ireland (1811-1839).
4. The
Reformed Presbytery In America (1774 -1778, 1798 -1805, 1840 -1845, 1854
-1887).
In
constituting the Reformed Presbytery In North America in moral succession to
these aforementioned faithful judicatories, it is evident that we have not
included any of the present bodies designated as "Reformed
Presbyterian" whether in Scotland, Ireland, Canada, or the United States.
In full
agreement with the official position of the Reformed Presbytery In America, as
recorded in their Minutes of June 2, 1841 (which are attached as an Addendum to
this Deed of Constitution), we hold these ecclesiastical bodies to be
unfaithful to the attainments of the Covenanted Reformation. With full
persuasion of conscience, we stand separate from them and cannot unite with
them until they publicly repent of their shameful backsliding.
Thus,
we affirm that we, having returned to faithful terms of communion, and a true
constitution, are not a schismatic body that has further divided the Church of
Christ. To the contrary, the Reformed Presbytery In North America is a moral
perpetuation of that faithful and unified manifestation of Christ's Covenanted
Church in Scotland, Ireland, and the United States. It is our goal to unite the
Church of Christ in every land by means of promoting a truly covenanted
reformation in accordance with the prayer of our Lord, "That they may be
one, even as we are one" (John 17:22).
This resource provides a video
and/or audio (MP3) record of this historic meeting and includes the complete Deed of Constitution for
the REFORMED PRESBYTERY IN NORTH AMERICA (RPNA). Just the "Deed of Constitution," and not the
complete meeting, is also available in etext (free of charge) at: http://www.reformedpresbytery.org/books/index.html.

Death: A Biblical View (2000)
The teaching from Scripture explaining: 1. The certainty of death;
2. The nearness of death; 3. The weakness of man; 4. The hope of man. Price
shows how the sting of death has been removed for the Christian and how the
biblical contemplation of death should spur us on to love and good works. A
sobering sermon, which we hope, all will take the time to obtain, listen to and
meditate upon. "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after
this the judgment..." (Heb. 9:27).

Christmass Condemned By Christ (1998)
Price shows how the teaching of the Lord
Jesus Christ condemns all man-invented holy days. Scripture and history are
brought to bear most specifically on the celebration of Christ-mass,
demonstrating why it is a sin to celebrate this day. It is also noted that
Scripture never commands the celebration of this day and that there is no
evidence that Christ and the Apostles ever celebrated this day -- in fact, this
syncretism of paganism and "Babylonian" Christianity was not first
celebrated until 354 A.D. (when December 25 was chosen, in accord with the
Pagan feast of Saturnalia, as the day of "celebration"). Price also
clearly shows that to call yourself Reformed while you hold on to this Roman
Catholic/Pagan monument of idolatry makes for a serious contradiction in your
testimony -- as the best Reformed churches have always disciplined those (in
accord with Scriptural teaching) who broke the second and fourth commandments
by keeping antichristian festival days like Christ-mass, Easter, etc. Citations
from Martin Luther, John Calvin and the company of Geneva Pastors, the Church
of Scotland's First Book of Discipline, the 1620 Dutch Synod, the Civil
Government of Holland (1625), the U.S. Colonies and the Westminster Assembly
all speak with one voice against this Romish corruption. Common objections
against the classic Reformed position are also answered. "Thus saith the
LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen" (Jer. 10:2). For more information

Nation Shaking Reformation Promoted
A classic sermon by a modern-day Puritan!
Deals with the major facets of national Reformation from the Old and New
Testaments, as well as providing historic examples of how and why God blesses
this biblical pattern. Explains the duties of the church, state and
individual in bringing about national covenanted Reformation. Includes notes on the importance of covenanting with God
(individually and corporately) and on the forthcoming covenant renewal (of the
Solemn League and Covenant) in Edmonton. Exposes tolerationism and religious pluralism as sin, gives
instruction on the "two sons of oil" in Zechariah's prophecy, and
provides direction (from the Lord's prayer as expounded by the Westminster
Divines in the Larger Catechism) on the kind of prayer that changes the world,
destroys the work of the devil, and honors and glorifies God. Reformation
eschatology also gets its due here. This sermon should be a great
encouragement to those that have been given the grace to see the bigger picture
regarding what God is doing in the world today -- and the certain
world-changing Reformation that is to come during the prophesied millennium!

Terms of Communion (19 cassettes by Greg Price)
This set of 19 free MP3s explains the six
"Terms of Ministerial and Christian Communion in the Reformed
Presbyterian Church" (i.e. the historic Covenanters). These terms represent a high water mark concerning covenanted
Reformation attainments thus far in history. They are thoroughly Scriptural (as this set proves) and
should be adopted by all Churches as the minimum standard by which people are
admitted to the Lord's Supper. The book on this site, An Explanation and Defense of the
Terms of Communion... by
the Reformed Presbytery, also covers much the same ground, adding some
arguments not found in this tape set, but generally containing less detail.
McKnight's Concerning
Close Communion (also
on this Web site) is also very helpful in regard to the general subject of the
Scriptural propriety of a close communion and explicit, open, honest, and
biblical terms for fencing the table of the Lord. Separate sections of this cassette
series can be purchased individually as outlined below.

Terms of Communion: The Word of God
(2 cassettes by Greg Price)
Explains and defends the first term of
communion, which is "An acknowledgement of the Old and New Testament to
be the Word of God, and the alone infallible rule of faith and practice." Covers the attributes of Scripture, including the necessity,
inspiration, authority, sufficiency, perspicuity, perpetuity, etc. of the Word
of God. Also deals with
principles of interpretation (hermeneutics) and how we know that God's Word is
His Word, and thus can be trusted as the absolute, inerrant, infallible and
inspired truth. Touches on higher criticism and the debate over bible version,
upholding the Textus Receptus (i.e. the ecclesiastical or received text) and
the King James Version. A fine defense of Sola Scriptura which also touches on how
"extra-biblical" terms of communion are not only required by
Scripture itself, but are an inescapable necessity. Price is careful to point out the
difference between the primary, infallible standard of Scripture and those
uninspired subordinate standards, which nevertheless bind the conscience
whenever they say the same thing as Scripture. A great introduction to God's
Word that comes with our highest recommendation.

Explains and defends the fourth term of
communion, which is "That public, social covenanting is an ordinance of
God, obligatory on churches and nations under the New Testament; that the
National Covenant and the Solemn League are an exemplification of this divine
institution; and that these Deeds are of continued obligation upon the moral
person; and in consistency with this, that the Renovation of these Covenants at
Auchensaugh, Scotland, 1712 was agreeable to the word of God." Also includes much Reformation
history (from Reformations found in Scripture and those that have taken place
since the closing of the canon)! This is the best audio information you will find on covenanting

contendings of the martyrs of Jesus, especially in Scotland, against Paganism,
Popery, Prelacy, Malignancy and Sectarianism; immoral civil governments;
Erastian tolerations and persecutions which flow from them; and of the Judicial
Testimony emitted by the Reformed Presbytery in North Britain, 1761 (i.e. The

9. The Second Coming of Christ as Righteous Motivation
(1 John 2:28-29) ($3.98) The practical
application of eschatology.
10. Joyful Obedience Versus Legalism (1 John 2:29-3:3)
($3.98)
11. To Love Christ is To Love God's Law (1 John 3:4-9)
(3.98) Shows how the devil hates God's law
for he is the greatest of all antinomians. Also demonstrates that living in
righteousness is necessary in the Christian life because Christ came to destroy
the works of the devil. Exposes modern strains of Gnostic lawlessness and
toleration, upholds the regulative principle, blasts HoHo (i.e. Christ-mass, or
the celebration of Roman Catholic/Pagan holy-days), etc. Asks the questions: 1.
Do I love God's law? and 2. Do I grieve over breaking it?
12. The Law of Love and Toleration (1 John 3:10-18)
(3.98) Love is always lacking where
unbiblical toleration is involved. Furthermore, toleration of sin and
ungodliness is one of the primary sins of our day and has greatly contributed
to a blurring of the antithesis between the faithfulness and unfaithfulness (in
every area of life). This sermon shows that we know that we are the children of
God because we love the brethren. It also points out that one manifestation of
this love is seen in the fact that we confront those involved in sin, whether
it be in doctrine or practice. Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart:
thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him (Lev.
19:17).
#13 & #14. Conscience, Pretended Liberty, Assurance
and the Accusing Heart (1 John 3:19-24) (7.96, 2 cassettes) Explains the relationship of conscience to assurance, how
to overcome an accusing heart and encourages all Christians to constantly
exercise themselves "to have always a conscience void of offence toward
God, and toward men" (Acts 24:16).
#15, #16, & #17. Testing Teachers, Separation and
the Love of the Truth (1 John 4:1-6) (11.94, 3 cassettes) It is often the case in the inspired history found in
Scripture (as well as otherwise) that false teachers abound; while the truth is
centered in either small nations or a faithful remnant of believers spread
throughout the nations. Our day continues in this pattern and sermons like this
are of the utmost necessity for those that love the Truth (above all else).
These sermons are like a small encyclopedia of Reformed thought on the topics
noted in the title, based solidly on the Scriptural ideas expounded during both
Reformations.
I John 4:7 (#18) Worldwide Calvinistic Unity and Loving
One Another (1997)
An amazing sermon which exposes all unity which is not based on truth (e.g. in
groups like Promise Keepers) as necessarily based on lies -- and as treason
against King Jesus! Defends the Reformation view of visible and covenanted
unity and uniformity from Scripture, and from pertinent quotes from Calvin
(during first Reformation), Henderson (the second Reformation architect of the
Solemn League and Covenant), and others. Exhibits how Reformed teaching has
always viewed the real schismatics (whether in the majority or minority) as
those who press "independent denominationalism" and as those who
tolerate a sinful multiformity -- against the national establishment of the one
true Reformed religion. Calvin and the Geneva Presbytery of his day even
counseled excommunication and exile for those that would not swear to their
"covenanted uniformity" in upholding the Geneva Confession of 1536 (cf. Calvin, Covenanting and Close Communion by Reg Barrow). Moreover, Price shows how our scandalous
modern multiformists (which includes the leaders of most so-called
"conservative Presbyterian" denominations today) teach and act in
direct opposition to Christ's high priestly prayer in John 17, as well as the
high standard of visible unity that will one day be attained worldwide (as seen
in the prophetic words found in Zechariah 14:9: "And the LORD shall be
king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name
one"). Furthermore, the portion of this sermon dealing with loving the
brethren is one of the most convicting practical sections of a contemporary
sermon that we have ever heard. Such preaching is extremely humbling,
calculated to exalt Christ and His truth, and to drive sinful human beings to
the throne of grace -- seeking everlasting mercy and forgiveness in the only
place that it can truly be found. In short, Price calls us back to our first
love (individually) and to the biblical attainments of our covenanted forefathers (corporately). It is
unlikely that you will find modern preaching much better than this.

I John 4:7-12 (#19) Loving God (1997)
This sermon demonstrates what it means (in Scripture) to love God -- and why we
should do so. It also shows how our love for God is expressed during times of
trial and suffering, with a word from James Renwick (excerpted from The Life
and Letters of James Renwick the Last Scottish Martyr, edited by Carslaw). Moreover, common unscriptural reasons
for loving are eliminated, while encouragement to love God is found throughout.

I John 4:13-16 (#20) Enjoying Communion With Christ
(1997)

communion with Christ. Enumerates the marks of regeneration. Exalts Christ and
rejoices in His love, mercy and grace throughout!

I John 4:13-16 (#21) Perfect Love Casts Out Fear (1997)
Demonstrates from Scripture what mature love for Christ is and how this love
contributes to our sanctification, peace and assurance. Includes a number of
searching comments directed to fathers in the context of exalting the love of
God, the Father, for His adopted children (the elect). Sermons like this make
you want to get up and shout for joy at the unfathomable love of God!

I John 5:6-9 (#23) Who is Jesus Christ? (1998)
The eternal destiny of men hinges on the person and work of Jesus Christ. This
sermon presents the biblical doctrine of who Christ is, as the Son of God.
Besides looking at His power, authority, promises, etc. in such a way as to
help Christians overcome their struggles with a lack of assurance concerning
salvation, it is an ideal tape to hand out to the unsaved. One portion defends the authenticity of the "
Johannine comma" in I John 5:7-8.
(Cassette) $3.98

I John 5:10-13 (#24) Assurance: How To Be Certain of
Your Salvation (1998)
This is the best sermon we have ever heard on the doctrine of assurance. It contrasts
Papist blasphemy and Arminian heresy on this point (from some of their official
documents) with the biblical position of the Reformation (citing the classic
landmark statements on assurance from the Westminster Confession of Faith). It
lays out the clear Scriptural provisions that God has made for every Christian
to enjoy the full assurance of faith, and thus enjoy close communion with
Christ throughout their earthly sojourn. Besides being a great encouragement to
believers, this tape can also be used as a helpful evangelistic tool. Finally,
if you, or anyone you know, have ever struggled with assurance (and there are
few Christians that haven't) then this is a sermon that you should not pass by.

I John 5:14-15 (#25) Delighting in the Lord, Daily
Secret Worship and Prayer (1998)
Encourages Christians to close communion with Christ through daily secret
worship, a love for holiness and a hatred of evil and error. Answers the
question: What is prayer? Explains why God answers some prayers affirmatively
and not others. Demonstrates what it means to pray according to God's will.
Shows how prayerlessness is idolatry. Proclaims the biblical duty of fasting,
when this should take place and why it is so powerful. Explains why elders in
faithful churches should bar from the Lord's table (as an act of loving
discipline) all those who will not practice daily secret worship.

I John 5:16-17 (#26) What Is the Sin Unto Death (1998)
A serious sermon on a sobering topic. Answers the question as to what it means
to blaspheme the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:28-29). Shows who it is that can commit
this sin -- thus placing themselves among the living damned -- "But he
that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness" (Mark
3:29). Distinguishes between this horrid and damning sin and those sins that
can be forgiven. Explains how this relates to prayer. Also exposes some of the
errors of Romanism, Arminianism and Antinomianism, especially in regard to
their views of sin and sanctification.
(Cassette) $3.98
(Video) $11.99
I John 5:18-21 (#27) Keep Yourselves From Idols (1998)
Being the final sermon in the I John series, Price gives a nice concise summary
of the most important points in the whole book. Focusing, as the Apostle John
himself did in summarizing the book, on: "Little children, keep yourselves
from idols. Amen" (1 John 5:21), Price lays the axe to the root of the
tree of sin. He also encourages practical holiness, the love of the truth and
(above all) the love of God -- in those whom Christ has called. The place of
secret worship, family worship and corporate worship in the life of the
believer is also dealt with. Comments on Mysticism, the Gnostics, Relativism,
Skepticism and much more are also included.

The Complete I John Series (27 cassettes, 1997-1998)
This series is a good example of contemporary Puritan preaching, as well as a
taste of the teaching of one of the leading figures in the growing movement
toward a third Reformation in our day. Price maintains and promotes the
biblical balance between individual and corporate (i.e. ecclesiastical and
civil) sanctification, all the while exalting the Lord Jesus Christ as Prophet,
Priest and King!

Antichrist and His Emissaries Unmasked and Rebuked
(1998)
A thundering example of Reformation preaching firing the gospel gun into the
vitals of ecclesiastical Antichrist. In enumerating the characteristics of
unfaithful ministers (from Scripture) Price unmasks the Pope ("that
Antichrist, that man of sin and son of perdition, that exalteth himself in the
Church against Christ, and all that is called God," original Westminster
Confession of Faith 25:6) and Billy Graham as prime examples of deception and
unfaithfulness in the visible church (as to essence) today. He points out how Arminianism in doctrine and worship (as
well as a host of other sins) are exemplified in these two public figures (as
well as in the Romish harlot [who rides the civil beast, Rev. 17-18] in
general, along with her harlot daughters [the backsliding
"Protestant" churches]). One example of egregious apostasy is seen in
the fact that Billy Graham sends his "converts" into liberal churches
(which deny the inspiration of Scripture), into that "masterpiece of
Satan" (Cunningham) the Roman Catholic church, and even into to Jewish
Synagogues (which deny Christ was the promised Messiah). This should not be
surprising, given Graham's recent public comments to fellow deceiver Robert
Schuller, that Muslims, Buddhists, and "non-believers" alike can be
members of "the body of Christ" even thought they "may not even
know the name of Jesus, but they know in their hearts that they need
something" (Battle Cry,
March/April 1998, Canadian Edition, p. 1.). Moreover, this forms another
example of how Graham is committing spiritual adultery with the Romish harlot,
for as the Battle Cry also notes
concerning Graham's heretical statement above: "this statement directly
agrees with the Roman Catholic universal catechism, page 224, para. 847: 'Those
who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his
church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart and, moved by grace,
try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of
their conscience, those too may achieve eternal salvation (by these
works--RB)'". As all Bible believers know, both of these comments (by Rome
and Billy Graham) fly into the teeth of the words of the Lord Jesus Christ,
when He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto
the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). Price also defends the right and duty
of private judgment from Scripture (and the writings of the Reformers), while
proclaiming the necessity of separation from unfaithful ministers and
ministries (with help from George
Gillespie, Samuel Rutherford and James Renwick). "Now I beseech you,
brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine
which ye have learned; and avoid them" (Rom. 16:17). If there is a message
that the church needs to hear today (if we are ever to see real Reformation)
this is it! This tape is also titled "Micah 3:5-8 (#7) Faithful and
Unfaithful Ministry Contrasted 2/3."

PRICE, GREG
The Apostolic/Reformation Way to
Worldwide (Biblical) Church Unity (7 sermons, 1998)
Seven astounding sermons on God's
biblically ordained method to fulfill His command for unity (and the great
commission) in the visible church:
1. What Are Terms of Communion? (2 cassettes, $7.96)
2. What is Close Communion? (2 cassettes, $7.96)
3. What is Occasion Hearing (or Occasional Communion)? (3 cassettes,
$11.94)
These truths which have been prominent
from Old Testament times to the days of the Apostles -- and in all great
subsequent Reformations and true revivals (especially during the second
Reformation) -- are clearly, simply and Scripturally presented. These forgotten
or ignored doctrines are once again coming to public notice in the preaching of
Greg Price (and the publishing of classic Covenanter literature), as well as in
the contemporary call for a third Reformation in which the nations of the earth
will once again enter into (or renew) covenant with Christ.
As Price points out from Scripture, these
truths will also be well known in the days of millennial glory to come.
"And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be
one LORD, and his name one (visibly--RB)" (Zech. 14:9). These sermons give us a foretaste of the
blessings that God will pour out upon His church when she runs "the way of
thy commandments" (Ps. 119:32) and when "the earth shall be full of
the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea" (Isa. 11:9)!

The Auchensaugh Renovation ($7.96, 2 cassettes) This is the story of the renewal of the National and
Solemn League and Covenant, which took place under the leadership of John
Macmillan (cf. The Cameronian Apostle
by Reid) at Auchensaugh, July 24, 1712. Events leading up to this renewal are
especially pertinent, as they expose the Satanic tactics which often become
most useful to the devil in attacking all revivals and those seeking to return
to covenanted attainments. Price notes how Cromwell's tolerationism opened the
floodgates of iniquity and helped pave the way (though not intended by the
covenant breaking Cromwellians) for the tyranny of Charles II. This set the
stage for the corrupted and defective revolution of 1688 and the malignant
Revolution church, which left the covenanted Reformation buried under the
debris of William's Erastianism, Prelacy (in England and Ireland) and the
compromised Presbyterianism of the Revolution Church in Scotland (cf.
Clarkson's Plain Reasons for Presbyterians Dissenting from the Revolution Church
of Scotland; this Revolution church was
the root of much modern day Presbyterian defection and this book still
eloquently denounces this defection). The Auchensaugh Renovation cleared away
all the Reformation denying rubbish that had accumulated from 1649 to 1712, and
"being agreeable to the Word of God" became part of the terms of
communion of the Reformed Presbyterian church on Nov. 3, 1712 (cf. Terms of
Ministerial and Christian Communion in the Reformed Presbyterian Church, point
4 of 6). It is also interesting to note that at the Lord's Supper (on July 27,
1712) following this covenant renewal, Macmillan, in "fencing the
tables" proclaimed, "I excommunicate and debar from this Holy Table
of the Lord, all devisers, commanders, users, or approvers, of any religious
worship not instituted by God in His Word, all tolerators and countenancers
thereof; and by consequence I debar and excommunicate from this Holy Table of
the Lord, Queen and Parliament, and all under them, who spread and propagate or
tolerate a false and superstitious worship, ay, and until they repent."
Furthermore, concerning those who opposed the covenants and the work of
reformation, Macmillan trumpeted these faithful words, "I excommunicate
and debar all who are opposers of our covenants and covenanted Reformation, and
all that have taken oaths contrary to our covenants, and such particularly as
are takers of the Oath of Abjuration, whether Ministers or others, until they
repent" (Reformed Presbytery, The Auchensaugh Renovation..., p. 55). Beyond the fascinating and detailed story of the
history and reasons for the Auchensaugh renovation of the covenants, these
studies also clearly and biblically explain the continuing obligation to renew
lawful covenants, makes application to our day, and demonstrates how
covenanting was foundational to the second Reformation. A fine (and unique) set
of tapes defending the attainments of our covenanted Reformation! For more
information see our bound photocopy The Auchensaugh Renovation... by the Reformed Presbytery.
Biblical Church Membership ($3.98) Here we have an overview of the second Reformation
doctrine of church membership. Price answers a variety of questions related to
the biblical standards for church membership, while also distinguishing between
the two "levels" of church membership found in Scripture. This
discussion leads into some interesting and useful comments concerning close
communion. He also deals with little known or understood topics (in our day),
relative to the church and church membership. Some of these include the
doctrines of biblical uniformity, anti-tolerationism, corporate and historical
ecclesiastical attainments, and the idea that the church is revealed in
Scripture as a "moral person." Faithful to the original intent of the
Westminster standards and the covenanted Reformation of the mid-17th century,
this is about as good an overview of this topic that you will currently find on
cassette.
Blasting the Devil's Lies About Sex and Marriage ($3.98,
cassette sermon) The teaching and
application of the seventh commandment, "Thou shalt not commit
adultery;" set forth as only a modern day Puritan minister can. Trumpets
God's covenant curses against the many forms of sexual deviancy; such as
homosexuality, adultery, and pornography (including print or screen
depictions). Shows how modern man has sown to the wind ("free" sex
and "safe" sex) and is now reaping the whirlwind of the so-called
sexual revolution, in a crop of disease, divorce and societal destruction.
Moreover, Price does not leave matters with the obvious outward violations of
this commandment, but makes application in accord with the words of Christ,
"But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her
hath committed adultery with her already in his heart" (Matt. 5:28). He
also upholds lawful vows and oaths and magnifies covenant responsibility in
marriage; outlining the major duties for both husbands and wives which are
required by Scripture in order to please the Lord in the marriage bond. Touches
on women's dress; demonstrates how dating leads to divorce (while upholding
biblical courtship); shows why God's word makes adultery a capital crime
(punishable by the lawful magistrate) and much more. One of our most practical
and searching sermons, most (or all) of this message applies to everyone in
some way.
The Blessing of Hunger and Thirst ($3.98) A great sermon regarding the practical outworking of the
righteousness of Christ in the believers life. This sermons demonstrates why
biblically balanced Calvinism has always become a much feared force (among the
minions of antichrist) wherever it is found; and a powerful blessing to the
nations and peoples which embrace the fullness of the whole counsel of God.
The Blessing of Persecution and Rejoicing in Suffering
($3.98, cassette) Our modern, comfortable,
"self-esteem" Christianity will find it impossible to relate to or
benefit from a sermon such as this; for this sermon is directed to the
suffering and despised remnant "which keep the commandments of God, and
have the testimony of Jesus Christ" (Rev. 12:17). For of these, and these
alone, is it said that "the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to
make war with the remnant of her seed" (Rev. 12:17). This preaching is for
the faithful witnesses, as our fifth term of communion states, who are found
"contending for all divine truth, and in testifying against all
corruptions embodied in the constitutions of either churches or states;"
those who approbate the "faithful contendings of the martyrs of
Jesus;" and those who valiantly oppose "Paganism, Popery, Prelacy,
Malignancy and Sectarianism; immoral civil governments; Erastian tolerations
and persecutions which flow from them." Here Price shows how persecution
always follows biblical peacemaking, as this beatitude (and subject of this
sermon) "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness'
sake" (Matt. 5:10) follows "Blessed are the peacemakers" (Matt.
5:9). Pointed, specific testimony to the truth of Christ (which names names)
has always been hated by Satan and the forces of malignancy, and has always
stirred up controversy and open opposition to the truth. But, as Price shows,
the offence must be in the Gospel or the resulting suffering is not what the
Bible calls persecution. Many careful distinctions are made throughout this
sermon on this point, distinguishing between what is and what is not
persecution. For example, Price asks, "Was Elijah a persecutor when he
caused the prophets of Baal to be executed?" (1 Kings. 18:40). Is a godly
magistrate a persecutor when he suppresses idolatry and heresy? What about when
the magistrate (or apostate church leaders) put down those preaching the truth?
Is one persecuted when he is slandered, misrepresented or even excommunicated
by the ignorant and scandalous? Helpful examples are provided throughout as
Price shows how Christians have and continue to be persecuted (through the
forces of the civil and ecclesiastical beasts, violent oppression, unjust
censures, verbal attacks, etc.). Especially useful will be the section dealing
with husbands and wives (or other family members) when they are convinced of
differing doctrines. The Christian response to persecution is also ably covered
in three succinct points. Price shows how our response to persecution should
usually follow one or more of these steps: 1) a testimony to the truth and
against error; 2) fleeing the persecutors when necessary and possible; 3) by
opposing the wicked with force when all other avenues have been exhausted.
Biblical and/or historical examples are provided for each case. This is an
amazing sermon calculated to greatly encourage those who continue to
"earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the
saints" (Jude 3).
Characteristics of Christians ($3.98) Points out five major distinctive characteristics found in
Christians. The last point regarding following in "the footsteps of the
flock" (Song 1:8) is not often recognized in our day. This is especially
true as it is given corporate significance in its application to the church, as
one moral person in space in time, and the relation this has to individual
sanctification. "That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath
already been; and God requireth that which is past" (Eccl. 3:15. emphasis added).
Christ and Covenant Children ($3.98) Shows four ways in which Children of believers are
considered part of the church, clothed from birth in their covenantal birth
right. Defends infant baptism as based in the Reformation hermeneutic which
recognizes the federal character of covenants and the covenantal continuity
seen throughout Scripture.
Christ the Faithful Remnant's Sanctuary (1997)
Touches on many subjects of interest to Reformed Christians, but focuses
primarily on God's view of the faithful remnant (in opposition to that of those
who oppose her) and questions related to the visible church. Refutes Rome on
this point, while also showing how many Reformed teachers have fallen into a Romish
error by equating the ministry with the visible church (e.g. Dick Bacon's The
Visible Church and Outer Darkness). Shows
how Turretin (and other Reformers) deflected this Romish error by detailing how
the faithful church is often contained in a small remnant that is, at times,
not even publicly visible (as in Elijah's day). Also shows how Calvin
counselled Christians to meet in their homes privately, if need be, to avoid
partaking in any public idolatry -- and that he also counselled, when possible,
to move to areas where a faithful ministry could be found, if none was
available locally. Rutherford and the Protesters are also shown to have been
faithful covenant keepers in regard to their separation from the corrupted
ministry and ordinances of the Resolutioners. All this is related to exhibiting
Christ (and His truth) as the primary concern for Christians, and the ministry
and ordinances (as important as they are) as means by which the people of God
are directed into close communion with the Saviour.

Christ's Resurrection Power ($3.98) "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things
which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God" (Col. 3:1).
Price shows how Christ has given us the power to seek that which is above, the
benefits of this power, and the great joy the proper use of this doctrine
brings.
Christian Liberty and Liberty of Conscience ($11.94, 3
cassettes) Demonstrates from Scripture
what Christian liberty is and what it isn't. Shows why this liberty is not a
license to sin or an excuse to place man's independent conscience above the
word of God (a common mistake in a democratic, egalitarian, atomistic age).
Samuel Rutherford battled this error in the mid-seventeenth century in his
classic Free Disputation Against Pretended Liberty of Conscience. Price not only applies these teachings to the individual,
but to the church and state also; asking the question regarding the latter:
"How can a moral wrong be a civil right?" (which applies to many
areas of present pagan civil juridical ineptitude -- not the least of which is
the abortion holocaust). Uses the alcohol issue to show how fundamentalists and
others misuse (and misunderstand) this doctrine; with a lengthy and detailed
treatment of this subject defending the believer's freedom to moderately
partake of alcohol.
Christian Love is Intolerant ($3.98) Explains how the church shows its love for Christ by its hatred
and refutation of all sin, error and backsliding. Toleration of sin is one of
the great sins of our day. It is widely practised in the church, state and
family. Based on Rev. 2:12-17, this sermon by Price rebukes theological
pluralism, "unity above truth," the church growth movement, and much
more!
Coping With Change ($3.98) How and why God uses change in our lives to keep us humble
and trusting in Him. Shows how change is always good when it involves a change
to truth. Arminianism and idolatry are denounced and the victim mentality is
exposed as unscriptural.
Covenant Theology and Its Implications (1998)
An easy-to-understand introduction to the basics of covenant theology. Explains
what covenant theology is, while adducing a number of practical and theological
implications which must follow when this view of Scripture is adopted. Shows
how covenant theology is (and was) foundational to all true Reformation.
Refutes Dispensationalism. Includes overviews (with Scripture proofs) of the
covenant of Redemption, the covenant of Works and the covenant of Grace. In
short, Price proclaims the classic Reformed position on covenants (and the
implications of covenant theology) as it has been declared in the best Reformed
Confessions (e.g. The Westminster Confession of Faith) and in books like The Marrow of Modern Divinity (by Fisher and Boston), The Covenant of Life Opened (by Samuel Rutherford), The Ark of the Covenant Opened and The Ark of the Testament Opened by Patrick Gillespie and The Life of Justification
Opened (by John Brown of Wamphray). This
is the best single tape sermon on covenant theology that we have knowledge of.

Covenanted Motherhood ($3.98) Motherhood exalted to the lofty and noble position that it
occupies in Scripture. Great encouragement is to be found here for those
"mothers in Israel" who bow reverently before the Word of the Lord,
and labor with all their might to be obedient to this high calling.
Covenanting and Terms of Communion($3.98) A short over view of the rationale behind closed communion,
covenanting and its obligation, and living up to Reformation attainments.
Deacons: A Christian Paradigm for Power ($3.98) Teaching on the office of deacon and the use of authority.
This sermons exhibits the biblical truth that "he that is greatest among
you shall be your servant" (Matt. 23:11).
Election($3.98) The
sovereignty of God defended from Eph. 1:1- 3.
Encouragement for the Discouraged ($3.98, cassette) While taking into account the sinfulness and frailty of
human nature, and the disappointments associated with this, Price shows from
the life of the Apostle Paul (and other suffering saints) how to overcome
discouragement and prosper under adversity. If you have ever been discouraged,
are presently discouraged, or think you may be discouraged in the future, this
is a good sermon to study and listen to over and over again. Exceedingly
practical and edifying teaching from the Word of God.
Encouragement for Faithful Elders ($3.98) Answers the question: What does in mean to be a faithful
leader in Christ's church? Also gives much practical encouragement.
Enemies to Faithfulness ($3.98) Experimental Christianity at its best.
The Extent of God's Law, Antichrist, Beastly Civil
Governments, the Family, Christian Education, Contentment and the Eight
Commandment ($3.98, cassette) An amazing
unfolding of the eighth commandment, as well as the rest of the decalogue,
which includes numerous specific applications to various areas of thought and
life (most relevant to the contemporary Christian). Price explains how to avoid
the extremes of legalism and antinomianism, while expounding the classic
Reformed view of the law as it applies to the individual, family, church and
state.
Fanning the Flame of Your First Love ($3.98) A searching and practical sermon that can be listened to
over and over.
Fasting, Prayer and the Third Reformation (1998)
A stunning example of Puritan style preaching, expounding from Scripture the
underlying features of all great Reformations -- whether individual,
ecclesiastical or civil. This sermon was preached in preparation for the solemn
public fast called by the elders of the Puritan Reformed Church. It answers
three major questions: 1. What is biblical fasting?; 2. Why should biblical
fasting be performed?; 3. How is biblical fasting to be exercised? For more
information see "Concerning Public Solemn Fasting" in the "The
Directory for Public Worship" found in the FP edition of the Westminster
Confession of Faith.

Finding True Joy ($3.98) Explains what biblical joy is and how to obtain it.
Foundations for Knowing Christ ($3.98, cassette) Though this sermon is bound to help those struggling with
assurance, it may be even more valuable as an introduction to the Gospel (and
can be profitably used as a handout to the unsaved). It focuses on man's utter
unworthiness and Christ's complete and absolute worthiness. In presenting the
message of salvation to needy sinners, Price calls upon all to flee to Christ
for shelter from God's wrath.
God's Absolute Sovereignty ($3.98) The heart of biblical Calvinism practically applied to the
individual, family, church and state. Also deals with man's responsibility
relative to God's predestination. "Having made known unto us the mystery
of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in
one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth;
even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being
predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the
counsel of his own will: That we should be
to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ " (Eph. 1:9-12,
emphasis added).
God's Love ($3.98)
Love is often best demonstrated in the midst of suffering and this sermon shows
how God demonstrated His love toward the elect in Christ's suffering and death.
Price also teaches us what we can learn from this holy pattern.
God's Purpose in Suffering ($3.98) Demonstrates how suffering brings glory to God and
sanctifies the individual. Also examines how the civil and ecclesiastical
beasts persecute (unto death if need be) the "women in the
wilderness" as she bears a faithful testimony unto the whole counsel of
God.
The Gospel in Philemon ($3.98, cassette) Contains the gospel of biblical salvation while denouncing
the "gospel" of human rights.
Heart Religion: Biblical Mercy ($3.98) A searching sermon explaining what mercy is and how mercy
and justice (i.e. God's law) are compatible. This tape shows how a heart right
with Christ will love mercy and also (at the same time) love and practice God's
will as expressed in His commandments. Child-murder (i.e. abortion), euthanasia
(i.e. so-called "mercy killing") and other contemporary concerns are
also addressed here. Price proclaims the biblical sanction of the death penalty
for those who practice the gross violation of the sixth commandment in
abortion, while also demonstrating how this is not contrary to God's mercy.
Heart Religion: The Peril of Lukewarmness ($3.98) Our Lord's most severe rebukes were aimed at false
toleration, false worship, spiritual apathy, godless indifference, neutrality
in His cause and mere external religion. In this sermon Price deals with Rev.
3:14-21 (Laodicea) and how to prevent these prevalent sins.
Heart Purity and Seeing God ($3.98, cassette) This sermon is based on "Blessed are the pure in
heart: for they shall see God" (Matt. 5:8). Here Price shows how moral
purity is the ongoing effect of regeneration and includes the unwillingness to
tolerate evil. Numerous ancient and modern heresies are exposed (among them
Gnosticism, Antinomianism, Libertinism, Asceticism, Mysticism, Pietism,
Emotionalism, Behaviorism, Humanism, Socialism), as well as profaness of life
-- with special emphasis of the seventh commandment ("thou shalt not
commit adultery"), because this sin is often used of Satan to untrack even
the best of the saints (e.g. David). Christians are also cautioned to avoid
modern stumbling blocks, such as filth and pollution that often accompanies
television watching and the world view often implied in modern advertising.
What "heart" means in Scripture in explained and many examples from
Scripture and history are given encouraging moral purity. Hypocrisy (i.e. the
"false face" of religious actors) and mere external religion is
rebuked, while Christians are called upon to pray "big prayers,"
because we have an almighty God who hears our cries and "is able to do
exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think" (Eph 3:20).
Humor, Mourning and the Effects of Sin ($3.98) Taking "Blessed are they that mourn" as his
text, Price contrasts worldly philosophy with the teaching of Scripture. He
shows what this Scripture is referring to (in the antithesis between Christ and
Satan), who it is that mourns, what they mourn over, and what blessing they are
promised. Biblical mourning is contrasted throughout with the worldly levity
and jesting that has become prominent in Christian circles -- and even in
pulpits. Price asks: How can a Christian laugh and joke about matters which
grieve the Holy Spirit and for which God's wrath is poured out? Most modern
humor is shown to be sinful and the effects of this sin, and sin in general,
are noted. This is a searching and stirring sermon dealing with personal and
corporate sanctification and should profit all those who are serious about the
faith.
Holiness Unto the Lord (1998)
One of the best sermons you may ever hear on the Puritan view of personal
sanctification -- with various Reformation references to corporate (i.e.
ecclesiastical and civil) sanctification also.

Husbands and Biblical Leadership ($7.96, 2 cassettes) Enumerates and explains the qualities which mark out a
leader in the Bible -- in opposition to much of what the world teaches and
preaches -- and gives many specifics by which husbands will be helped to
glorify God in their Scripturally ordained position as head of the house. Deals
with the true nature of authority, ministry, sacrifice and humility, while
blasting the modern scourges of egalitarianism, feminism and antinomianism.
Iconoclasm Leads to Victory ($3.98) This is the kind of preaching that led to the great
Reformations of the past. May it be blessed of God to do so once again.
Importance of Godly Leaders ($3.98) Indispensable teaching for all those aspiring to be and
those who already are leaders in the church. Deals with leadership
qualifications such as humility, compassion, courage, steadfastness,
single-mindedness, and a host of others.
Jesus Hates False Teaching and Unholy Alliances ($3.98) Demonstrates that toleration of sin (individually or
corporately) is spiritual adultery and leads to God's judgement. Asks the
questions: Do you hate false teaching? Do you despise error? Do you abominate
lies? The Lord Jesus Christ does! A faithful testimony that is much needed in
our day of general apostasy. Special introductory price.
Joyful Obedience Versus Legalism ($3.98) Legalism is a common slander brought against the people of
God, who love his law (Ps. 1). But what Satan, the unbeliever, and the
antinomian do not understand is the great joy, blessing and reward (the
greatest reward is fellowship with Christ) intricately interwoven in obedience
(by God's grace) to His holy, spiritual and just commands. For as our Lord
himself says: "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is
that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will
love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot,
Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the
world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my
words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our
abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word
which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me (John 14:21-24).
Judicial Blindness in the Modern Church ($3.98) A strong rebuke directed at a backslidden modern church,
which also includes much encouragement for all those who remain faithful to
historic Reformation (i.e. biblical) attainments. Using the church at Sardis
(Rev. 3:1-6) as a basis for this sermon, Price here blasts forth a clarion call
for a return to the corporate ecclesiastical and national attainments of the
second Reformation! Powerful preaching, reminiscent of the old Covenanters of
days gone by.
Legalism and Licentiousness Exposed and Refuted ($3.98) Helps the Christian to walk the narrow path by recognizing
and avoiding these two major pitfalls (both in practice and doctrine).
Demonstrates how much of what passes for freedom today (both individually,
ecclesiastically and nationally) is really bondage to sin. Deals with Romanism,
Arminianism, Antinomianism and many other enemies to the faith.
Loving the Brethren and Christian Liberty ($3.98) Explains why the law of love and the law of liberty must
operate together. Shows how loving God means keeping His law, "For this is
the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not
grievous" (1 John 5:3); and how loving of brethren means the same thing,
"By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and
keep his commandments" (1 John 5:2). Also demonstrates how love is not
toleration of sin; why the the Lord hates false doctrine; and how it is our
duty to separate ourselves from error and evil -- even when it is found among
professing Christians (Rom 16:17).
Marks of a Faithful Ministry ($3.98) Covers the major qualifications of elders and demonstrates
how fervent prayer, humility and the faithful proclamation of the whole counsel
of God are Scriptural marks of faithful ministries. Deals with modern
innovators (who jest in the pulpit, hide the hard truths of Scripture from
their congregations, etc.) and idolaters (who use drama, dance, etc., as means
of public worship), warning the sheep of the baleful (baal-full) influence of
such men. Touches on the necessity of separation from backslidden and false
ministers.
The Martyrs' Testimony, Roman Catholic Tradition and the
Importance of History (1997)
What is historical testimony? How does the Reformed view of historical
testimony differ from the Roman Catholic view of tradition? Does the Reformed
view of historical testimony militate against Sola Scriptura? What does Psalm 78 say about historical testimony? How
did the Reformers view this Psalm? How does history impact our terms of
communion, our sanctification (personal and corporate), etc.? These and many
other important questions are answered in this fascinating and faithful sermon
-- expounding the views of the Reformed faith against the errors of the
Romanists, Anabaptists, Independents and modern "evangelicals" on
this topic. "Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers
thereof. Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it
to the generation following" (Ps. 48:12-13). "Give ear, O my people,
to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in
a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and
our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, showing to
the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his
wonderful works that he hath done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and
appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should
make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them,
even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to
their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works
of God, but keep his commandments..." (Ps. 78:1-7).

Masculinity ($15.92, 4 tape set) With the demonized world, media and church constantly
assaulting the biblical doctrine of male headship, this anti-egalitarian elixir
should be a welcome tonic for restoring a vigorous biblical masculinity, based
on Scriptural realities (in opposition to the feminized fantasies of modern
clerics and the spiritually impotent and faithless foolishness of the modern
media "universe.").
Meekness ($3.98, cassette) Explains what biblical meekness is and what it is not.
Shows how this is a trait exemplified among Christian leaders of the past
(including Moses, Gideon, David, Calvin [refusing the Lord's supper to the
Libertines upon threat of his life], Knox and Melville [opposing the civil
beast]). Very practical preaching.
Micah 1:1-7 (#1) Corrupt Worship and God's Anger With
the Church and the Nations (1998)
An amazing sermon! One of the best we have ever carried! If you love Reformed
thought, you will love this sermon. Here Price covers not only the text (Micah
1:1-7), but also provides introductory and background information applicable to
the whole book of Micah (with much "prophetic" urgency). He outlines
the major causes of God's wrath against both Israel and Judah in Micah's day,
explains why such sins bring God's judgment on individuals, churches and
nations, and then makes application to our day. He demonstrates how God's judgment is already upon our
nations (as seen in abortion, divisions in the church, divorce, idolatry,
homosexuality [and the public toleration of sodomites], false doctrine, godless
civil and ecclesiastical leaders, pornography, godless public education, false
worship, drug abuse, covenant breaking, Islam, natural disasters, Sabbath
breaking, the ungodly use of technology [TV, movies, radio, etc.] and its
toleration, man-made [Roman Catholic] holy-days, blasphemous and wicked music,
pluralism, ignorance of daily secret and family worship, egalitarianism,
ignorance of the regulative principle of worship, feminism, communism, the
resurgence of Romanism [and the other limbs of antichrist], etc.) -- and how
the cup of God's wrath will continue to fill, barring true repentance. As in
Micah's day, idolatry (i.e. putting the will and work of man in the place of
the will and work of God) is shown to be
the root sin from which all other sins proceed. Furthermore, idolatry is also
shown to be the sin which (throughout the Old Testament) brought some of the
most severe judgments from God against the spiritually adulterous covenant
people -- though Price is careful to biblically balance God's judgment with His
glorious mercy. Preaching like this reminds one of what is contained in the
sermons of Calvin or some of the old Covenanters, when they dealt with the Old
Testament prophets and God's wrath against His backsliding people. And yet, as
with the old Reformers, Christ is exalted and His gracious offers of salvation
shine like a beacon amidst the loving admonitions and threats of coming
judgment upon those who continue in their spiritual whoredom.

Micah 1:8-16 (#2) Mercy in God's Judgment (1998)
While noting how God's judgments in history often drive His people closer to
Him (teaching us lessons about holiness that we would otherwise miss), Price
also shows how God delights in mercy -- demonstrating that He takes "no
pleasure in the death of the wicked" (Ezek. 33:11). This sermon also
teaches us how to respond to signs of God's judgment and encourages prayer,
fasting, secret worship, family worship and inward faithfulness and communion
with Christ. Levity, lightness and the desire for popular acceptance in
preaching is also denounced as a sign of defection and backsliding -- as Price
illustrates in the following quote which he cites from an English minister in
1656 (Richard Baxter, The Reformed Pastor,
pp. 119-120),
Of all preaching in the world . . . I hate that preaching
which tends to make the hearers laugh, or to move their minds with tickling
levity, and affect them as stage-plays used to do, instead of affecting them with
a holy reverence of the name of God. Jerome says, "Teach in thy church,
not to get the applause of the people, but to set in motion the groan; the
tears of the hearers are thy praises.
Christ's free offer of salvation is also proclaimed in this
message.

Micah 2:1-2 (#3) God Defends the Poor & Helpless
(1998)
A classic example of how the Old Testament prophets spoke out against social
injustice. Includes a Scriptural overview of God's care for the downtrodden, an
investigation of oppression as it was practiced in Israel and Judah in Micah's
day (with contemporary parallels), and many practical considerations (with
application to our day).

Micah 2:3-13 (#4) The Goodness and Severity of God
(1998)
Shows how and why God's judgments fall, what such calamities mean, what
Christians can learn from these events and maladies, and how we are to respond
to the dark dispensations that sometimes come from an almighty and sovereign
Creator who works everything "according to his good pleasure which he hath
purposed in himself" (Eph. 1:9). Concludes that "all things work
together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according
to his purpose" (Rom. 8:28).

Micah 3:1-4 (#5) Biblical Civil Rule Expounded (With An
Antidote Against Anti-Reformed Views of the Civil Magistrate) (1998)
Following in the footsteps of Samuel Rutherford, when he said, "Truth to
Christ cannot be treason to Caesar" (Lex, Rex), Price here demonstrates why Covenanters love lawful
civil magistrates and why they can't own the authority of unlawful civil
rulers. He also answers a number of questions on the Scriptural view of civil
authority. What is a faithful civil magistrate? How do we recognize an
unfaithful civil governor? Should a Christian vote in covenant breaking lands?
How should we pray for lawful and unlawful civil rulers? Why should we
distinguish between the office and the person in the office, and what does this
mean? When should we consider an unjust ruler or government a tyrant and what
should we do about tyranny? How does this relate to Reformation eschatology?
Calvin, Rutherford, the Synod of Dort, the Westminster Confession of Faith, Diodati's
Annotations, the Belgic Confession and many other Reformation standards and
authors are cited to witness to the biblical position on civil rule. Objections
against the biblical Reformation position are also answered, while Price shows
the importance of faithful civil rulers to national and international
Reformation.

Micah 3:5-8 (#6) Faithful and Unfaithful Ministry
Contrasted 1/3 (1998)
Describes from Scripture the characteristics and beliefs that attend a faithful
ministry (or that will be seen in a faithful minister). Shows how both faithful
ministry and magistracy are integral to Reformation, as exemplified in the two
witnesses (or two olive trees) of Scripture (Rev. 11:3,4). Gives examples of
faithfulness from Calvin and from Andrew Melville (in his courageous rebuke to
King James). Also demonstrates that classic Protestant position (cf.
"Proof That the Church is Often Obscured" by Francis Turretin, http://www.swrb.com/newslett/actualnls/ChuObsc.htm
or pages 47-57 in Turretin's Institutes of Elenctic Theology, volume 3) that truth is often in the minority, residing
in a faithful and despised remnant (during the period of the great apostasy in
which we now live) -- contrary to the lies of the Romish harlot concerning the
splendor of the visible church. Every minister (and those aspiring to the
ministry) should obtain this tape and the other two in this set -- as well as
every Christian who prays for the peace and purity of Christ's church.

Micah 3:5-8 (#7) Faithful and Unfaithful Ministry
Contrasted 2/3 (1998)
A thundering example of Reformation preaching firing the gospel gun into the
vitals of ecclesiastical Antichrist. In enumerating the characteristics of
unfaithful ministers (from Scripture) Price unmasks the Pope ("that
Antichrist, that man of sin and son of perdition, that exalteth himself in the
Church against Christ, and all that is called God," WCF 25:6) and Billy
Graham as prime examples of deception and unfaithfulness in the visible church
(as to essence) today. He points out how
Arminianism in doctrine and worship (as well as a host of other sins) are
exemplified in these two public figures (as well as in the Romish harlot [who
rides the civil beast, Rev. 17-18] in general, along with her harlot daughters
[the backsliding "Protestant" churches]). One example of egregious
apostasy is seen in the fact that Billy Graham sends his "converts"
into liberal churches (which deny the inspiration of Scripture), into that
"masterpieces of Satan" (Cunningham) the Roman Catholic church, and
even into to Jewish Synagogues (which deny Christ was the promised Messiah).
This should not be surprising, given Graham's recent public comments to fellow
deceiver Robert Schuller, that Muslims, Buddhists, and
"non-believers" alike can be members of "the body of
Christ" even thought they "may not even know the name of Jesus, but
they know in their hearts that they need something" (Battle Cry, March/April 1998, Canadian Edition, p. 1.). Moreover,
this forms another example of how Graham is committing spiritual adultery with
the Romish harlot, for as the Battle Cry
also notes concerning Graham's heretical statement above: "this statement
directly agrees with the Roman Catholic universal catechism, page 224, para.
847: 'Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of
Christ or his church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart and,
moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the
dictates of their conscience, those too may achieve eternal salvation (by these
works--RB)'". As all Bible believers know, both of these comments (by Rome
and Billy Graham) fly into the teeth of the words of the Lord Jesus Christ,
when He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto
the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). Price also defends the right and duty
of private judgement from Scripture (and the writings of the Reformers), while
proclaiming the necessity of separation from unfaithful ministers and
ministries (with help from George
Gillespie, Samuel Rutherford and James Renwick). "Now I beseech you,
brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine
which ye have learned; and avoid them" (Rom. 16:17). If there is a message
that the church needs to hear today (if we are ever to see real Reformation)
this is it! This tape is also titled "Antichrist and His Emissaries
Unmasked and Rebuked."

Micah 3:5-8 (#8) Faithful and Unfaithful Ministry
Contrasted 3/3 (1998)
Shows how pragmatism, greed, idolatry (false worship, denial of the regulative
principle, etc.), false unity, unscriptural toleration of error, etc., mark out
the teaching and life of unfaithful ministers. The case of the Scottish
ministers (of the second Reformation), who would not bow to persecution, but
did cave in to the indulgences offered by the King, is given as an example of
how Satan works to stumble ministers with pragmatic considerations of ease and
worldly "success" -- anything to get them off a principled stand for
the truth. Explains what kind of judgments those who are unfaithful can expect.
Encouragement is also given to those who remain faithful.

Micah 4:1-5 (#9 & #10) Reformation Eschatology, the
Millennium and the Victory of Christ's Kingdom (2 sermons, 1998)
The eschatology of the Reformers (and the Reformation Creeds and Confessions)
defended and explained: exhibiting the prominent place that the victory of
Christ's kingdom (in history) is given in Scripture -- and in the writings of
the best Reformers (from Calvin and Cameron, to Witsius [Dutch] and the
Westminster Divines [British]). Also demonstrates how the millennium (which
Price notes may begin within a generation or two) will include such notable
events as the nations bowing to Christ's Kingship civilly, worldwide unity
(based on truth, Amos 3:3) in the church, and universal peace in the world.
This is hard to dispute just in light of the text from which these sermons are
preached:
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the
mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the
mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto
it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the
mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach
us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of
Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among many
people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords
into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a
sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. But they shall sit
every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them
afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it. For all people will
walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD
our God for ever and ever.
If you are interested in Reformed thought and would like a
very encouraging overview of the classic Protestant position on eschatology,
this is likely the best tape set you will find!

Micah 4:6-8 (#11 & #12) Israel Turns To Christ (2
sermons, 1998)
In 1635 Samuel Rutherford wrote,
O to see the sight, next to Christ's Coming in the clouds,
the most joyful! Our elder brethren the Jews and Christ fall upon one another;
they will be kind to one another when they meet. O day! O longed for and lovely
day-dawn! O sweet Jesus, let me see that sight which will be as life from the
dead, thee and thy ancient people in mutual embraces (from The Letters of
Samuel Rutherford as cited in Iain
Murray's, The Puritan Hope: Revival and the Interpretation of Prophecy [Banner of Truth, 1984, p. 98]).
Price here sets forth the classic Reformation position on
the restoration of the Jews, a "system of prophetic interpretation that
historically furnished the Biblical basis for the most glorious future
imaginable for the Jews!" (Reg Barrow, "Publisher's Preface" in Hal
Lindsey and the Restoration of the Jews).

The Narrow Reformation Way (1998)
Demonstrates that for much of history (as recorded in Scripture and in other
trustworthy records) the truth has been held by a very small remnant. Providing
a great number of examples, Price shows why this has been so, what we can learn
from it, when this will change and how all this fits with classic Reformation
eschatology (historicist postmillennialism).

The National Covenant of Scotland (2 cassettes, $7.96) This covenant has been considered (along with the Solemn
League and Covenant) as one of two major historical covenants binding the moral
person of the church -- since the days of the covenants of Old Testament
Israel. Greg Price gives a fascinating account of what led up to this watershed
document, what is contained in it (and why) and shows why this is of great
importance to the church today. If you are interested in the present testimony
concerning the Lord's covenanted Zion, this is one of the best places to start.
Teaching like this has not been heard in North America for some time and it
marks the revival of the most consistent Calvinism that the church has attained
thus far in history.
Nation Shaking Reformation Promoted ($3.98, cassette) A classic sermon by a modern-day Puritan! Deals with the major
facets of national Reformation from the Old and New Testaments, as well as
providing historic examples of how and why God blesses this biblical pattern.
Explains the duties of the church, state and individual in bringing about
national covenanted Reformation. Includes notes on the importance of
covenanting with God (individually and corporately) and on the forthcoming
covenant renewal (of the Solemn League and Covenant) in Edmonton. Exposes
tolerationism and religious pluralism as sin, gives instruction on the
"two sons of oil" in Zechariah's prophecy, and provides direction
(from the Lord's prayer as expounded by the Westminster Divines in the Larger
Catechism) on the kind of prayer that changes the world, destroys the work of
the devil, and honors and glorifies God. Reformation eschatology also gets its
due here. This sermon should be a great encouragement to those that have been
given the grace to see the bigger picture regarding what God is doing in the
world today -- and the certain world changing Reformation that is to come
during the prophesied millennium!
Objections to Covenanting Answered ($3.98) A powerful example of why the teaching prevalent during
the days of the height of the second Reformation brought international
transformation to all areas of life -- including whole nations covenanting with
Christ to uphold His word and law! This
lecture also includes some of the most controversial teaching (near the end of
the tape) that you are likely to hear from any living minister of Christ --
though Knox, Rutherford, Renwick and many other covenanted Presbyterian
ministers often put their lives on the line for these very truths. These truths
continue to be a point of standing testimony in our day of ecumenical apostasy,
theological declension, and ecclesiastical and civil deformation. "My
sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27) was
never truer than regarding the lost and buried attainments (of the covenanted
Reformation) being brought to light once again in our day through the preaching
and teaching of Greg Price.
Only True Unity, The ($3.98) There is only one Biblical way to true unity and this tape
sets it forth. National Reformation will follow.
Peace and Freedom From Guilt ($3.98) Practical encouragement regarding living by faith in the
finished work of Christ, maintaining freedom from the guilt of your sin and
keeping a clear conscience before the omniscient (all knowing) God of
Scripture.
Peacemakers at War With Sin ($3.98, cassette) Focusing on Matt. 5:9, "Blessed are the
peacemakers," Price demonstrate what this portion of Scripture means by
contrasting it with what it does not mean. Using this "Turretin-like"
method of proclaiming the truth some surprising results are often mined from
God's Word, and this sermon is no exception. Special attention is given to
marriage and family relationships, but how this verity applies to the church
and the state is also covered -- the United Nations receiving its share of scathing
rebukes for the false, antichristian peace it promotes. Mere external
"peace" and "obedience" are condemned as Price sets his
sights on promoting classic Puritan experimental heart Christianity. Showing
that true peace only consists in reconciliation based on God's truth, the
peacemaker's Scripture refers to are often judged by the carnal and disaffected
to be the greatest trouble makers -- the Lord Jesus Christ being the prime
example. He hated and fought against
idolatry, covenant breaking and all other violations of God's law (as the
greatest peacemaker that ever lived) to such an extent that those who desired
the peace of the world tortured and murdered him. Prophets and wise men since
have often fared no better in seeking to set forth the only true peace.
Biblical peace is not based on compromise, pragmatism or the removal of
Biblical (Reformation) landmarks, it is seen in this sermon to be based on
truth and faithfulness. "Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that
the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a
friend of the world is the enemy of God" (James 4:4). Heresy, the false
ecumenical movement of mystery Babylon, Calvin on schism, unity and numerous
other points are all addressed. "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give
unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be
troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27).
Perseverance of the Saints ($3.98) The "P" in TULIP. A powerfully encouraging
sermon that illustrates God's absolute sovereignty in bringing His children
safely home to heaven.
Pictures of Christ and Idolatry ($3.98) Deals with the second commandment and one of its most
prominent modern violations. Refutes the Roman Catholic view, which has been
adopted, at least in part, by many who now call themselves Protestants.
Power of the Confessing Church ($3.98) Deals with the big picture, regarding the family, the
church and the state. Upholds the "forgotten four" commandments (i.e.
the first to the fourth) and applies them to each of these major areas of
Christian concern. Promotes Christian education, courtship and daily family
worship, as well as the total reformation of church and state.
Presbyterianism and the Preservation of the Church
($3.98) Price proves why Presbyterianism
is the only form of church government that is instituted of God in Scripture.
He then takes this truth and demonstrates the practical outworking, as seen in
the blessings or curses of God, upon those who either obey or stumble at this
teaching. This sermon also instructs believers in the marks of the true church
and warns against joining with those corrupted bodies which are not biblically
constituted. Some of the same truths are applied to nations (and civil
"ministers"). Price notes that unlawful, covenant-breaking,
Christ-rejecting, nations presently include Canada and the USA. He also blasts
Arminianism, schism (showing how we must sometimes separate to avoid schism) and idolatry! The old Reformation fires burn hot
here.
Protecting and Preserving the Truth ($3.98) A pointed and practical sermon revolving around the
question: What are you willing to give up for the truth? Demonstrates how
anything in your life that you would not forsake for THE TRUTH, including life
itself, is an idol!
Rebuking the Synagogue of Satan ($3.98) Working from Rev. 3:7-9 (the letter to the church at
Philadelphia) this sermon clearly sets forth the source of all true authority
and the believer's relation to "authorities" -- with special emphasis
on derivative ecclesiastical authority and the constitutional nature of the
visible church. Application is made in giving guidelines by which the true
church can be known from the false. Calvin's doctrine of the visible church is
proclaimed in a way that is seldom heard in our day (even in
"Reformed" circles). The marks of the true church, as Scripturally
recognized by our Reformed forefathers, are testified to (and explained) from
Knox's Scottish Confession of Faith
(1560) and Calvin's Institutes (cf.
4.2.12). Separation from false churches is set forth as a duty and the
toleration of error, heresy and idolatry -- among those that take the name of
Christ -- is shown not only to militate against Christ's love and grace, but is
exposed as a serious and heinous sin! These teachings may be too much for most
(in our day of antichristian tolerationism and the pretended love that winks at
sin) -- but they are clearly faithful to Scripture and our Reformation forefathers.
PRICE, GREG
The Reformed Confessions, Heresy,
Schism and the Faithful Remnant
This sermon demonstrates that the
Apostle John, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, made the truth of the Christian
doctrine preached, published or distributed the determining factor in the
evaluation of the faithfulness of any individual ministry. Price shows how doctrinal fidelity should
also be our prime consideration in deciding where to worship (i.e. in evaluating
corporate or denominational faithfulness), while exhibiting how the church will
grow in faithfulness and strength (as a body) when these Apostolic instructions
are followed.
Additionally, Price delves deeply into the
biblical teaching concerning heresy (both of the destructive and damnable
varieties), schism, and the usefulness of the historical testimony of the
church -- as found in her major creeds and confessions.
In this sermon Price gives some of the most practical, specific
guidelines you may find regarding what churches to attend, or when and why to leave churches which
promote heresy and schism (i.e. teachings contrary to the biblical confessions of the churches of the
Reformed faith). Popular modern methods of evaluating teachers are also shown
to be unbiblical and destructive to the visible church. Calvin, Gillespie and
others make frequent "appearances," tying this sermon directly into
both the first and second Reformations.

Reformation Politics Versus the Beast ($3.98) An excellent summary of Price's latest book Biblical
Civil Government Versus the Beast; and, the Basis for Civil Resistance. Here Price lays out the biblical and historical basis for
the most highly developed aspects of Reformation thought regarding civil
government. He explains the biblical view of civil magistracy and applies it to
the present situation, showing why most modern civil rulers are tyrants and
thus should not be given conscientious submission (according to Romans 13:1-7).
Price's list of how modern rulers habitually violate each of the ten
commandments should prove illuminating, as well as his citations from the searing
indictments against wicked rulers given from famous Reformed leaders of the
past. This book also discusses tactics of Christian resistance, while answering
the question: Should Christians hold office or vote in the present
circumstances? This highly controversial cassette will certainly seem shocking
to those who are not familiar with Reformation thought on this topic -- but it
is faithful to Scripture, the original confessions of the Reformation and the
testimony of the covenanting martyrs (who gave their lives resisting the civil
beast and proclaiming Christ's absolute Kingship over the nations).
Repentance, Rejoicing and Reformation (1998)
Preached during a public fast day, Price zeros in on the curse of sin and God's
remedy for this curse. He also shows how God's judgment comes in stages, while
providing specific recent examples of this judgment. The biblical steps
necessary to all true Reformation and the turning away of God's wrath (from the
individual, the church and the nations) are also enumerated.

Revival of Family Religion, The ($3.98) This sermon includes much practical application from
Scripture -- given to help parents raise godly families. It touches on family
worship, loving discipline, education, as well as many other areas of parental
responsibility (under God). Price shows how, generally speaking, the church is
only as strong as the families in the church -- and nations are only as strong
as the churches and families that comprise them. This is a good example of
modern day Puritan preaching on the family.
The Role of Women in the Church ($7.96, 2 cassettes) An extremely strong biblical stand, sure to be
controversial.
Seeking the Lost: Biblical Tactics of Evangelism ($3.98)
Answers how and why a Calvinist brings the
good news to a lost world.
The Solemn League and Covenant ($3.98) Hetherington, concerning the Solemn League and Covenant
(the epitome of second Reformation attainments) writes, "no man who is
able to understand its nature, and to feel and appreciate its spirit and its
aim, will deny it to be the wisest, the sublimest, and the most sacred document
ever framed by uninspired men" (History of the Westminster Assembly of
Divines, [1856] SWRB reprint 1993, p.
134). What took place during the days of the writing and international
subscriptions to the Solemn League and Covenant has been cited before as a
foretaste of the millennial glory to come. The Reformed Presbytery writes,
"These modern pigmies are too far dwarfed in intellectual stature to
measure the altitude, of our glorious Covenanted Reformation -- a Reformation
which, imbedded in the law and the covenant of God, has already brought civil
and ecclesiastical freedom to many millions; and which is doubtless destined to
be laid in the foundation of reconstructed society in the millennial period of
the world" (A Short Vindication of Our Covenanted Reformation, [1879] SWRB reprint 1996, p. 4). In this lecture Price
gives a brief history of the three major causes leading up to the Solemn League
and Covenant. These were: 1.) the erroneous beliefs and practices associated
with the so-called divine right of Kings; 2.) the apostasy of Prelacy in
doctrine (e.g. the Arminianism of Rome), worship (tolerating and introducing
anti-regulativist Romish superstitions), and government (against the divine
right of Presbyterianism) -- all three of these areas being a practical denial
of sola Scriptura in that man ordained
elements were idolatrously adopted over those clearly prescribed in Scripture;
3.) the desire of the Reformers for a covenanted Presbyterian uniformity in
church and state. Price shows how many of the national Protestant churches of
the day (outside of the British Isles) were also looking into swearing this
covenant (including the Netherlands, France, Switzerland and Sweden), as a
means to biblical unity and uniformity. In fact, this covenant was framed
(primarily by Alexander Henderson) with the intention of uniting Protestants
worldwide. As Price shows, this goal quickly unraveled with the coming to power
of that Judas of the Covenant (Cromwell), his army and the Independents. The
descending obligation of this covenant is also covered, and application is made
to modern nations (like the USA, Canada, etc.) who are the national posterity
of the original covenanters. Application is also made to the apostate modern
church (and Price names names). It is also shown how this covenant was a term
of communion in the church and how negative civil sanctions were to be applied
to those who publicly opposed the Solemn League and Covenant -- students could
not even enter college without proof of subscription. Price uses various
historical citations from The Acts of the General Assemblies of the Church
of Scotland From the Year 1638 to the Year 1649 Inclusive (available from SWRB as a rare bound photocopy) to
demonstrate these historical facts. Later defections from the covenanted
Reformation, such as those by Charles II and William's civilly and ecclesiastically
corrupted Revolution settlement are also dealt with. The second half of the
tape summarizes the six articles of the Solemn League and Covenant;
concentrating on the biblical (civil, ecclesiastical and individual)
responsibilities that were sworn in this covenant. Application is made to our
day and the tape closes with some questions regarding American history and
government and the Canadian constitution. The Solemn League and Covenant
(because it was agreeable to the Word of God) formed the foundation of the
second Reformation internationally (as is seen in the letter received by the
General Assembly of the Church of Scotland on June 4, 1644, from the Scottish
commissioners [Rutherford, Gillespie, et al] at the Westminster assembly; cf. The
Acts..., pp. 228, 250). This covenant
still binds the church and many nations today, and until these "moral
persons" renew this covenant (in spirit and in truth) the Lord will
continue to prosecute the quarrel of His covenant. Thus, this is an exceedingly
important tape as it explains one of the major, modern causes of God's wrath
upon the nations and the church. When the churches and nations are granted
repentance in (or preparing for) the millennium they will be found "going
forth by the footsteps of the flock" (Song 1:8) and not turned "aside
by the flock of thy companions" (i.e. those that appear religious but are
actually a hindrance to the work of the building of Christ's kingdom, Song of
Solomon 1:7, cf. Douglas' Strictures on Occasional Hearing, [1820] SWRB reprint 1996); and there is no "footstep
of the flock" more clearly distinguished in the bedrock of history (since
the second century) than the Solemn League and Covenant.
Sovereign Grace Salvation ($3.98) God's sovereignty and love for His elect defended!
Stewardship, Wisdom and Covenant Keeping ($3.98) Explains how the church is seen as a moral person (with a
federal character throughout history) and thus bound to the biblical covenants
of her faithful forefathers.
Suffering: The Biblical Gift ($3.98) Hard teaching, but of great benefit.
Sufficiency of Scripture ($3.98) Sola Scriptura is still the cry!
PRICE, GREG
Terms of Communion
This set explains the six "Terms of Ministerial and Christian
Communion in the Reformed Presbyterian Church." These terms represent a high water mark concerning
covenanted Reformation attainments thus far in history. They are thoroughly
Scriptural (as this set proves) and should be adopted by all Churches as the
minimum standard by which people are admitted to communicate membership. Separate sections of this series can be purchased
individually and these subsets are listed after the terms themselves. The
"rare bound photocopy" An Explanation and Defense of the Terms of
Communion... by the Reformed Presbytery
also covers much the same ground, adding some arguments not found in this tape
set, but generally containing less detail. McKnight's "rare bound
photocopy" Concerning Close Communion is also very helpful in regard to the general subject of the Scriptural
propriety of a close communion and explicit, open, honest, and biblical terms
for fencing the table of the Lord. The six terms of communion are:
1. An acknowledgement of the Old and New Testament to be the
Word of God, and the alone infallible rule of faith and practice.
2. That the whole doctrine of the Westminster Confession of
Faith, and the Catechisms, Larger and Shorter, are agreeable unto, and founded
upon the Scriptures.
3. That Presbyterial Church Government and manner of
worship are alone of divine right and unalterable; and that the most perfect
model of these as yet attained, is exhibited in the Form of Government and
Directory for Worship, adopted by the Church of Scotland in the Second Reformation.
4. That public, social covenanting is an ordinance of God,
obligatory on churches and nations under the New Testament; that the National
Covenant and the Solemn League are an exemplification of this divine institution;
and that these Deeds are of continued obligation upon the moral person; and in
consistency with this, that the Renovation of these Covenants at Auchensaugh,
Scotland, 1712 was agreeable to the word of God.
5. An approbation of the faithful contendings of the
martyrs of Jesus, especially in Scotland, against Paganism, Popery, Prelacy,
Malignancy and Sectarianism; immoral civil governments; Erastian tolerations
and persecutions which flow from them; and of the Judicial Testimony emitted by
the Reformed Presbytery in North Britain, 1761 with supplements from the
Reformed Presbyterian Church; as containing a noble example to be followed, in
contending for all divine truth, and in testifying against all corruptions
embodied in the constitutions of either churches or states.
6. Practically adorning the doctrine of God our Savior by
walking in all His commandments and ordinances blamelessly.

Terms of Communion: The Word of God
Explains and defends the first term of communion, which is
"An acknowledgement of the Old and New Testament to be the Word of God,
and the alone infallible rule of faith and practice." Covers the
attributes of Scripture, including the necessity, inspiration, authority,
sufficiency, perspicuity, perpetuity, etc. of the Word of God. Also deals with
principles of interpretation (hermeneutics) and how we know that God's Word is
His Word, and thus can be trusted as the absolute, inerrant, infallible and
inspired truth. Touches on higher criticism and the debate over Bible versions,
upholding the Textus Receptus (i.e. the ecclesiastical or received text) and
the King James Version. A fine defense of Sola Scriptura which also touches on
how "extra-biblical" terms of communion are not only required by
Scripture itself, but are an inescapable necessity. Price is careful to point
out the difference between the primary, infallible standard of Scripture and
those uninspired subordinate standards, which nevertheless bind the conscience
whenever they say the same thing as Scripture. A great introduction to God's
Word that comes with our highest recommendation. "I will worship toward
thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth:
for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name" (Ps. 138:2).

Terms of Communion: The Westminster
Standards
Explains and defends the second term of communion, which is
"That the whole doctrine of the Westminster Confession of Faith, and the
Catechisms, Larger and Shorter, are agreeable unto, and founded upon the
Scriptures." Price not only explains why we need creeds and confession
(answering the question: Isn't the Scripture sufficient?), but he shows how everyone
has a creed and how such statements of
faith are actually inescapable -- for as soon as one says what he believes the
Bible means, he has (by definition) put forth his creed ("credo" in
Latin means "to believe"). There is no neutrality! He also gives a
summary of the Westminster standards and the history of this august assembly,
demonstrating why these standards are agreeable to the word of God. After
showing how faithful creeds and confessions (i.e. human testimony) have brought
untold blessings to the church he gives a history of the Westminster Assembly
(setting the context for the study of the Standards themselves). The doctrines
contained in the confessional standards are then summarized. Price also exposes
and rebukes much false teaching and false practice (contrary to the standards)
using the specific names associated with each heresy refuted. The following
doctrines are covered: sola Scripture (refuting popery, neo-orthodoxy,
liberalism and the Charismatics), the doctrine of God (refuting Unitarianism,
Oneness theology [Modalism, Sabellianism], and tritheism), God's decrees and
predestination (refuting Arminianism, fatalism [Islam]), creation (refuting
Evolutionism, Pantheism and New Age and Eastern mysticism), the covenant of
works, Providence (against "luck" and "accidents"), the
fall of man (refuting Arminianism and Pelagianism), the covenant of grace
(refuting Dispensationalism), Christ our mediator (refuting Arianism [JW's],
Apollinarianism, Nestorianism, Eutychianism [which led to the
transubstantiation and consubstantiation heresies], the free offer of the
gospel, effectual calling (contra Arminianism), justification by faith alone
through Christ alone (contra Rome and the Arminians), sanctification and good
works (condemning antinomianism and legalism), assurance of faith, perseverance
of the saints, the law of God, Christian liberty (against pretended liberty of
conscience and the imposition of legalistic standards outside of the law of
God), worship (against the anti-regulativists and promoters of will-worship),
the regulative principle (condemning Arminianism in worship), the Sabbath
(taking the high Scottish view), lawful oaths and vows (condemning covenant
breaking [churches and nations included], perjury, etc.), the civil magistrate
(against pluralism, false toleration, Erastianism, and for biblical
establishments), marriage, the church (contra popery, prelacy and independency
[all of which are forms of sectarianism]), and the resurrection and general
judgment.

Terms of Communion: Presbyterian
Worship and Government
Explains and defends the third term of communion, which is
"That Presbyterial Church Government and manner of worship are alone of
divine right and unalterable; and that the most perfect model of these as yet
attained, is exhibited in the Form of Government and Directory for Worship,
adopted by the Church of Scotland in the Second Reformation." "To
many readers, the subject of church government will not seem terribly exciting.
Judging from the lack of contemporary literature on the topic, one might
conclude that church polity is not very important. Yet, if the truth were
known, many of the practical problems facing the church are the result of an
abandonment of scriptural church polity. The church is not a mere social club.
The church is the kingdom of Christ (Col. 1:13), subject to his rule. In the
Bible, the Lord has established an ecclesiastical government by which his
people are to be ruled. Just as Christ has instituted civil government to
ensure civil order, so he has established ecclesiastical government to preserve
order in the church (1 Cor. 14:33). A man is not free to dispense with the
church's government anymore than he is at liberty to disregard the (lawful--RB)
civil authorities. We do not contend that the divine order for church
government extends to every detail. Obviously, the Lord did not mandate how
many times the elders of the church must meet each month; nor did he prescribe
any particular attire for them to wear while performing their official duties.
Such incidentals are adapted to the needs and exigencies of the time and place;
according to the general rules of the word, which are always to be observed.
Nevertheless, the scriptures do provide an overall plan of government, which
the church must follow if she is to remain faithful to her Lord. Therefore, it
is important to examine biblical principles of church polity," writes
Kevin Reed in his Biblical Church Government. Much the same could be said regarding worship. These MP3
lectures are an excellent introductory explanation of the fundamentals of
Divine Right Presbyterian church government and Divine Right Presbyterian worship.
They are jam-packed with Scripture, history and sound reasoning and should be
very helpful to all those seeking the Lord's will concerning these two
important subjects. Greg Price distinguishes between the elements and
circumstances of worship (contra John Frame's heretical innovations, wherein he
rejects these distinctions), while the vital issues of unity and uniformity,
separation from false worship and false man-made church governments are not
forgotten. All this is set in the context of faithfully approaching the Lord's
table. "Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and
keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you" (1 Cor. 11:2).

Terms of Communion: Covenants and
Covenanting
Explains and defends the fourth term of communion, which is
"That public, social covenanting is an ordinance of God, obligatory on
churches and nations under the New Testament; that the National Covenant and the
Solemn League are an exemplification of this divine institution; and that these
Deeds are of continued obligation upon the moral person; and in consistency

separately on the National Covenant (2 tapes), the Solemn League and Covenant
(1 tape), the Auchensaugh Renovation (2 tapes), as well as two introductory
lectures (only available in this set) on the biblical principles related to the
ordinance of covenanting, the descending obligation of lawful covenants,
objections against covenanting, etc. Roberts, in his Reformed Presbyterian
Catechism ($8.99), catches the spirit of
this tape set in the following question and answer: "Q. May we not indulge
the hope, that, in the goodness of our covenant God, and by the promised
outpouring of his Holy Spirit, 'the kingdoms of the world' at large, and the
British empire in particular, will dedicate themselves to God in a covenant not
to be forgotten - animated by the example of our covenant fathers exhibited in
these memorable deeds? A. Yes. We have the most cheering grounds for this
blessed hope; for it is written, that the nations at large in the spirit of
devoted loyalty, shall cry -- 'Come and let us join ourselves to the Lord in a
perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten': and it cannot be well doubted,
that the death-cry of the martyred Guthrie has been heard on high, and shall be
verified -- 'The covenants, the covenants, shall yet be Scotland's (and the
world's -- RB) reviving'" (p. 151). A thoroughly amazing set of tapes --
among our best!

Terms of Communion: The Martyrs and
Historic Testimony
Explains and defends the fifth term of communion, which is
"An approbation of the faithful contendings of the martyrs of Jesus,
especially in Scotland, against Paganism, Popery, Prelacy, Malignancy and
Sectarianism; immoral civil governments; Erastian tolerations and persecutions
which flow from them; and of the Judicial Testimony emitted by the Reformed
Presbytery in North Britain, 1761 (i.e. The Act, Declaration and Testimony
for the Whole of Our Covenanted Reformation--RB)
with supplements from the Reformed Presbyterian Church; as containing a noble
example to be followed, in contending for all divine truth, and in testifying
against all corruptions embodied in the constitutions of either churches or
states." Greg Price demonstrates how and why uninspired historical
testimony must be a term of communion. A number of the same arguments apply to
this question (of fencing the Lord's table based on uninspired historical
testimony), as apply to fencing the table based on biblically accurate creeds and
confessions -- so those that understand biblical creedalism (and close
communion) should have no problem with this aspect of Reformation thought.
Reformation views are also differentiated from Romish views of history, church
authority, etc., as they come to bear on this point. At one of the most
interesting points of this study, Price also proves how one cannot even keep
the inspired commandments of God without the use of uninspired history (using
the fifth and ninth commandments as examples). History is here set on its
biblical foundations. Testimony is also well dealt with. Testimony is defined
as "That record which a witness gives (in a court) in defense of the truth
and in opposition to error." Faithful biblical testimony is shown, by
various examples from inspired and uninspired history, to bring the fury of the
enemy. This is where the Reformation theological rubber meets the road of
experimental Christianity and disinterested self-sacrifice (often resulting in
suffering and persecution as the antichristian beast [ecclesiastical and civil]
is stirred from his slumber by the barbs of faithful Christian witnesses as
they testify to the truth and against "all corruptions embodied in the
constitutions of either churches or states" -- thus the long list of Christian
martyrs throughout history).

Terms of Communion: The Practice of
Truth
Explains and defends the sixth term of communion, which is
"Practically adorning the doctrine of God our Savior by walking in all His
commandments and ordinances blamelessly." Contains an excellent and
encouraging overview of the biblical doctrine of sanctification (individual and
corporate). Explains the role of the law of God in the life of the believer,
refuting legalism, antinomianism and the perfectionism of the Wesleyans,
Anabaptists and Roman Catholics. Distinguishes between heresies and damnable
heresies, giving examples of each (including Pelagianism, Arminianism,
Dispensationalism, etc.). Explains how the "face of God" is seen in
His ordinances, how to use these to grow in grace and what is meant by
"blameless" in the sixth term of communion above. In short, this is
one of the best tapes you will find giving an overview of the biblical doctrine
of sanctification.

Thankfulness, Obedience and Healing (1998)
Greg Price deals with our need for God's mercy, as it was pictured in Christ's cleansing
of the ten lepers (Luke 17:15-16), along with the far reaching implications of
the actions of the one leper that returned to thank the Lord.

Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness ($3.98) Powerful Puritan preaching on the ninth commandment. In
keeping with the Westminster Larger Catechism (answer 144) Greg Price teaches that: "The duties
required in the ninth commandment are, the preserving and promoting of truth
between man and man, and the good name of our neighbor, as well as our own;
appearing and standing for the truth; and from the heart, sincerely, freely,
clearly, and fully, speaking the truth, and only the truth, in matters of
judgment and justice, and in all other things whatsoever; a charitable esteem
of our neighbors; loving, desiring, and rejoicing in their good name; sorrowing
for, and covering of their infirmities; freely acknowledging of their gifts and
graces, defending their innocency; a ready receiving of a good report, and
unwillingness to admit of an evil report, concerning them; discouraging
talebearers, flatterers, and slanderers; love and care of our own good name,
and defending it when need requires; keeping of lawful promises; studying and
practicing of whatsoever things are true, honest, lovely, and of good
report."
Thou Shalt Not Kill ($3.98, cassette) A detailed explanation of the meaning and application of
the sixth commandment as it applies to both the body and soul. Also covers the
application of this commandment to the family, church and state. Deals with
capital punishment (and the biblical case laws), abortion, the Reformed view of
war and self-defense, parental responsibilities, Christian education, family
worship, the use of the tongue, forgiveness, how love covers a multitude of
sins, when to rebuke a wayward brother and much more. If the Puritans or old
Covenanters were alive today, this is the type of preaching that you would hear
from them -- as referenbes to second Reformation confessional standards are shown
to be in agreement with the Word of God and the sins of the day are lovingly
(with heart-felt sorrow), yet forcefully, denounced. The loveliness and beauty
of the Lord Jesus Christ (and His grace to undeserving sinners) is also
prominently displayed throughout.
Weak and Strong Christians Contrasted ($3.98) An overview of Romans 14 in preparation for the three tape
series titled: "Christian Liberty and Liberty of Conscience." Shows
the differences between weak and strong Christians and their duties to each
other. If these biblical teachings were known and practiced there would be much
less discord among Christians.
What Are Terms of Communion? (1998)
Price shows how truth is more foundational than love and that biblical love
is always built on truth -- or else it is
not the love which God commands (John 14:15-24). This sermon is based on 1 Cor.
1:10, "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but
that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same
judgment." It covers the three-fold purpose for terms of communion, the
biblical testimony for terms of communion and an appeal for terms of communion.
We see here that all churches have terms of communion (whether explicit or
implicit) and that these terms of communion justify each denominations' (or
congregations') separate existence from other denominations or congregations.
However, it is also pointed out that the present state of the visible church is
in direct opposition to many of God commands for visible unity (based on
truth). This is a grievous situation, which stirs God to wrath and gives us an
example of God's judgment upon the church. This sermon seeks to remove this
cause of God's wrath by pressing the need for faithful obedience in regard to
biblical unity (which will only be accomplished as the churches agree together
on Scriptural terms of communion, Amos 3:3). Examples from Apostolic teaching
and from the practice of the best Reformed churches of the past are used to
emphasize the critical nature of this teaching. Interestingly, Price also shows
(from Christ's high priestly prayer in John 17) that until the church comes to
a visible unity (based on common, faithful terms of communion) the massive
evangelism of Jews (Romans 11) and Gentiles (Ezek. 47) predicted in Scripture
will not take place. This makes understanding and practising these truths of
extreme importance -- while exposing much of the unbiblical evangelism that
takes place today. If you love the purity and peace of Christ's church and/or
long to see the masses of unevangelized humanity come to Christ, this is
exactly the teaching that will help you to do your own part in bringing about
this glorious end. This is the first sermon in the three tape series "The
Apostolic/Reformation Way to Worldwide (Biblical) Church Unity."

What is Biblical Faith? ($3.98) Foundation teaching that will be of benefit to young and
old alike.
What is Close Communion? (2 cassettes, 1998)
Explains and defends the Apostolic teaching and practice concerning the Lord's
Supper (based on and found in Scripture). Demonstrates how this was also
classic Reformation practice, written into the best Reformed confessions,
covenants and Acts of General Assemblies. Moreover, Calvin and many other
individual leaders of Reformation are shown to have upheld this position. Price
also shows how close communion exhibits Christian love and is one of the great
means of grace to bring visible unity to the Church of Jesus Christ. This is
classic Reformed teaching that is misunderstood, much maligned and even
forgotten in our day. It is also rarely preached, so here you have a rare audio
treat in which you may taste of the old Covenanted and Reformed ways from a
contemporary preacher. These are two sermons from the series "The
Apostolic/Reformation Way to Worldwide (Biblical) Church Unity."

What is Occasional Hearing? (3 cassettes, 1998)
Occasional hearing is the sinful practice, denounced in Scripture and by the
best Reformers, of attending upon the public ministries of unfaithful ministers.
As Price points out, without faithfulness in this area, the visible church will
be filled with disunity, confusion and eventually apostasy. David Steele echoes
this much needed warning, writing,
Finally, that we may trace the streams to their fountain,
of which the "flock of slaughter" are tempted to drink when
"fouled by the feet of shepherds" unfaithful to the Chief Shepherd,
we believe that the (fons et origo omnium nostrorum malorum) -- the fountain
and origin of all our sinful departures from the Covenanted Work of Reformation
-- will be found in the practice of what is well, too well, marked in our
history, and commonly called "Occasional Hearing." Can any person
give a reason why he should not hear constantly where he can hear occasionally?
Or can any one, at the same time, testify against a church for unfaithfulness,
and wait upon its ministry, without evident inconsistency and neutralizing his
testimony? Will he succeed in recovering backsliders by following them in their
backsliding course? We distinguish here between such as are advancing and those
who are retrograding, as our witnessing fathers always did, and towards which
parties our deportment ought to be different. To those advancing we extend a
helping hand, but from those declining we are commanded to "turn
away" (1 Tim. 3:1-5). If I may hear a minister in his pulpit in another
fellowship, why may I not in my own pulpit? Then exchange of pulpits
necessarily follows, invitation to a seat in church courts, and then open communion!
-- and all sanctioned and sanctified by the euphonious phrase, "Christian
courtesy"! But how will Christ look upon such motley multitudes? Can they
bury his blood-sealed truth and conceal their hypocrisy under "good words
and fair speeches" from "His eyes, like unto a flame of fire?"
Impossible. But we ought to "have the mind of Christ." (l Cor. 2:16).
To us the logical connection of the consecutive steps above merely noted is
quite obvious. The inevitable tendency of occasional hearing and its
ultimate issue is open communion, -- the overthrow of all creeds, confessions
and testimonies; all Subordinate Standards and final apostasy. (A Short Vindication of Our Covenanted Reformation, pp. 49-50, 1879, emphases added)
It is unlikely that you will hear these Apostolic/Reformed
truths preached in many other places (if at all). If you are serious about
keeping the Apostolic command, "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them
which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have
learned; and avoid them" (Rom. 16:17), this series is must listening!

What is True Faith ($3.98, cassette)
This solidly Calvinistic sermon gives a detailed biblical exposition of what
true faith is. It does so in such a way that everyone from children to the
oldest, battle tested soldier for Christ will gain much edification. Price also
explores some of the most controversial aspects of God's one Reformed and
revealed religion -- as they are related to the practical application and
outworking of true faith -- including the ultimacy of truth, separation from
ecclesiastical antichrist, resistance to tyrants, etc. Samuel Rutherford's Lex,
Rex is cited in response to objections to
the Presbyterian on the civil magistrate. In one of the most helpful sections,
Price compares true faith with false faith. Questions dealing with assurance,
the covenant of grace, humility, meekness, and much more are also all touched
upon. In short, Puritan preaching par excellence!
Why Creeds are a Biblical Necessity ($3.98, cassette, 90
minutes) A much-misunderstood topic in our
day made easy to understand; with copious Scriptural proofs included for each
proposition. Answers the question as to why we need creeds and confessions and
deals with the oft-asked question: Isn't Scripture sufficient? Shows how
faithful creeds derive their authority from Scripture, how they advance the
truth and defend it from heresy, and how they promote the peace, purity and
unity of the church. Answers many questions about toleration and the civil and
ecclesiastical establishment of the one true Reformed religion, while
demonstrating how God's wrath abides upon those churches and nations that will
not own Christ as King. Deals with the nature of the church and the state and
gives insight into which churches to join and which churches to leave. This is
a lecture of major importance if we are ever to see a unified and faithful
witness to the truth in our day; and few would contend that such a witness is
not a Scriptural duty. "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions
among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the
same judgment" (1 Cor. 1:10).
Why Do Heresies Arise in the Church? ($3.98, cassette) Believers are often confused and discouraged by the many
heresies that buffet the church. Unbelievers use differing views among
professing Christians as an excuse to dismiss the idea of truth and the
Scriptures. This sermon expounds on the three main biblical reasons why God has
decreed that heresies come. It should be found to be very encouraging and
comforting to all those that love the truth, as it answers some tough questions
which are rarely dealt with in our day.
Wives and Biblical Submission ($3.98) The Covenanter view of authority and submission set forth
with special application to husbands and wives. Directed primarily to the
ladies of the covenant (but containing a good deal of exhortation to husbands),
this is about as practical a sermon as you will hear. There was good reason why
Puritan families were so strong and why divorce was unheard of among these
Calvinists; much of it (as the listener will certainly notice) can be traced
back to what Greg Price sets forth in this sermon. If you desire a godly family
and a marriage relationship analogous to that which Christ enjoys with his
bride (the church) you will be pleased with the strong, uncompromising (and yet
loving), biblical stand set forth here. A Greg Price classic!

Ladies of the Covenant (1851)
Memoirs of distinguished Scottish female characters, embracing the period of
the covenant and the persecution. The introduction notes the importance of the
lives of these courageous women, when it states: "They have especially by
the magnanimity with which they suffered in the cause of truth, emphatically
taught us the important principle that we are in all things and at all times to
do what is right; and as to the disapprobation, opposition, and persecution of
men, in whatever way manifested, or to whatever extent, we are to let that take
its chance, a principle, the importance of which it is difficult to
over-estimate; which lies at the foundation of all that is great and good in
character; which has enabled the greatest and the best men, by the blessing of
God, to achieve the great purposes they have formed for advancing the highest
interests of mankind, and upon which it is necessary for the good soldier of
Christ to act in every age, in an age in which the church enjoys tranquillity,
as well as when she suffers persecution." Samuel Rutherford's (and others)
correspondence with these exceptional Christian women is noted throughout. 494

The Classical Protestant Doctrine of the Church
This tape, read by Larry Birger, is chapter 2 in Greg Barrow's The
Covenanted Reformation Defended (free at:
http://www.swrb.com/newslett/actualnls/misrep2.htm). It covers some of the most
important (and often forgotten, in our day) aspects of the Reformation doctrine
of the church. Numerous citations are included, from many Reformation leaders
and the confessional statements of the best Reformed churches. Without the
distinctions made here you are likely to misunderstand not only the Reformation
view of the church, but also related questions (like why the Reformers accepted
Roman Catholic baptism [it was the Anabaptists that rejected the baptism of
Rome, because of errors related to these very questions]). Furthermore, as
Barrow points out, the Reformed distinction regarding the "being" and
the "well being" of the church is absolutely indispensable. Without
an understanding of this crucial Scriptural distinction concerning the church
you will not be able to fully understand the best Reformers on any issues about
or related to the church.

BARROW, GREG
Covenanted Uniformity: The
Protestant Remedy for Disunity
These tapes, read by Larry Birger, are
chapter 3 in Greg Barrow's The Covenanted Reformation Defended (free at:
http://www.swrb.com/newslett/actualnls/misrep3.htm). They set forth the
scriptural, Protestant view of public social covenanting, showing how the
National Covenant of Scotland and the Solemn League and Covenant of England,
Scotland and Ireland bind us today, and how the renewal of these will heal the
deplorable disunity of the Church. "Cardinal doctrines of Protestantism" (to borrow the
words of Charles Hodge) such as the doctrine of churches and nations being
"moral persons" are clearly explained, and the separationist
"deep pit of covenant breaking" into which the modern Church has
fallen is laid open and a helping hand extended. A must for those wishing to understand
the biblical doctrine of covenanting, and the principles and practice of our Protestant
forefathers!

A Puritan Reformed Discussion of Holy Days
Covers the fourth commandment and how it is related to man-made holy days like
Christmass, Easter, etc. Argues that these man-made days are unwarranted and
have the effect of diminishing the zeal with which the Lord's Day is kept holy,
even, in some cases, leading to a disregard for the sanctity of the Sabbath
altogether.

Cutting Off Your Personal Idols
A powerful sermon concerning personal holiness and the holy violence necessary
to vanquish all idols resting in the human heart. This sermon is read (by
Ruling Elder Lyndon Dohms) from the book Sermons in Times of Persecution (available from SWRB).

God's Mysterious Love and Providence
This sermon is read from the book Sermons in Times of Persecution (available from SWRB). It is an astounding sermon which
gives one the feel of what it would be like to listen to a faithful covenanted
preacher who was risking his life for the sake of the Gospel. Here the sweetness of Christ's love is contrasted with His
discipline and wrath. Bruce not only searches out the public defections from
the kingly claims of Christ (upon the nations and His church), but deals with
individual sanctification in a manner seldom heard. This is one of the best
sermons that we have ever heard -- highly recommended!

Angels and Offenders
Here Cameron deals with many topics including angels, church discipline, the
wrath of God, humility, conversion, perseverance, independency, etc. This
sermon is read (by Ruling Elder Lyndon Dohms) from the book Sermons in Times

The Calvinistic Covenanter at Perfect Peace Amid Trials
and Persecution
This sermon proclaims God's sovereignty over all as the basis for that perfect
peace "which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7; Isa. 26:3). It
further explains how to attain calmness of spirit, even in the most trying of
times (and remember that the preacher and hearers of this message were being
hounded as criminals for covenant faithfulness -- and often executed or
imprisoned for not defecting to the Prelatical and Royalist beasts [which would
have been contrary to the biblical vows which bound them in the Solemn League
and Covenant]). This sermon also rebukes the enemies of Christ's covenanted
Zion and assures the faithful of the Lord's ultimate and complete victory. It
is ideal to listen to if you are ever discouraged, disquieted in spirit or
distraught by the apparent success of those who oppose Christ's kingdom. It was
also the last sermon Cameron preached (July 18, 1680), three days before he was
killed at Ayrsmoss. "The text was from the Psalms: 'Be still and know that
I am God; I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth'
... Cameron spent the last night of his life at Meadowhead on the Water of Ayr.
In the morning, when he had washed his hands, he looked upon them and said,
'This is their last washing; I had need to wash them clean, for there are many
to see them'" (Sermons Delivered in Times of Persecution in Scotland, p. 380). He was killed in battle later that day,
overwhelmed by superior numbers. Cameron's head and hands were then "taken
to Edinburgh and presented to the Council by one who, though an enemy, said,
'There are the head and hands of a man who lived praying and preaching, and
died praying and fighting'" (Ibid.). Following this incident, Cameron's
own father gave us a prime example of the application of the very principles
preached in this sermon by his son (i.e. how laying hold of the doctrine of
God's absolute sovereignty and wisdom gives a peace that the world has no way
of understanding). M'Leod, citing Crookshank in his A Scriptural View of the
Character, Causes, and Ends of the Present War (p. 223), relates that "the tyrannical council, in the
refinement of cruelty, ordered them (Cameron's head and hands--RB) to be shown
to his worthy Father, now in prison for the same cause. He was asked if he knew
them. The good man took them in his hands, kissed them, and said, 'I know them,
they are my son's, my dear son's: Good is the will of the Lord, who cannot
wrong me or mine.'" It is also interesting to note that as Robert M'Ward
lifted his hands from Cameron's head, at his ordination (sometime earlier), he
is reported to have said, "Behold, all ye beholders, here is the head of a
faithful minister and servant of Jesus Christ, who shall lose the same for his
Master's interest, and it shall be set up before sun and moon in the view of
the world" (Sermons, p. 379).
M'Ward's prophecy, of course, was fulfilled in detail subsequent to Cameron's
death (as the historical account of the public display made of Cameron's head
and hands, by his enemies, attests). This sermon is read by ruling elder Lyndon
Dohms and is taken from the book Sermons Delivered in Times of Persecution
in Scotland, by Sufferers for the Royal Prerogatives of Jesus Christ ($39.00 HP, $27.86 P). It is a fine example of the
faithful preaching of the whole counsel of God under the most extreme of
conditions.

God Defends His Covenanted Remnant
Cameron, the "lion of the Covenant," had to travel to Holland to
receive ordination at the hands of two of Samuel Rutherford's former students,
McWard and Brown of Wamphray (who were earlier exiled to the Netherlands for
faithfulness to Christ's cause). Cameron could not be ordained in Scotland due
to the fact that all the other "presbyterian" ministers remaining in
Scotland had defected from the covenanted cause. But Cameron (as Elijah and
others before him) persevered, as the church is often brought to such
extremities concerning her public testimony. Holding to the attainments won at
Westminster and in the Solemn League and Covenant, Cameron refused to yield an
inch of the blood bought ground he occupied. He was later joined by a second
minister, Donald Cargill, and both were eventually martyred for their unwillingness
to "sell" even the least of the church's covenanted attainments
(Prov. 23:23). He was said to be a powerful preacher and this sermon gives us a
glimpse of what it must have been like to hear him. It covers numerous topics
but focuses on Christ's victory in His church and God's anger against those who
oppose his faithful servants. It contains a testimony against unlawful civil
rulers and against Scotland's national apostasy (and covenant breaking). It
also defends the use of defensive arms, the testimony of the Scottish martyrs
during the killing times and some of the specific attainments of the covenanted
Reformation. Here again we get a taste of Covenanter field preaching in days of
great persecution. This sermon is read (by Ruling Elder Lyndon Dohms) from the
book Sermons in Times of Persecution in Scotland, by Sufferers for the Royal
Prerogatives of Jesus Christ ($27.86).

preached in January of 1675 and is read by elder Lyndon Dohms from the book A Collection of Very Valuable
Sermons: Preached on several Subjects and in divers Places in the time of the
Late Persecution. By these Eminent Servants of Jesus Christ, Messrs John Kid,
John King, John Welch, John Blackadder, John Dickson, and Gabriel Semple.

Published at the request of those who desire to Own the same Testimony, that
some of these Authors Owned and Sealed with their Blood (edited by John Howie [1780], $4.48 P; $16.00 HP). It contains incredible Scriptural
insights and is a great example of the classic Covenanter preaching that took place during times of intense
persecution, when faithful ministers were often hunted and martyred for their
stand for Christ's Crown and Covenant.

Ezekiel's Vision of Millennial Glory, Preparation for
Coming Reformation and a Remedy for Backsliding and Lukewarmness
This sermon, read by elder Lyndon Dohms (1998), was originally preached to
England's House of Commons "At Their Late Solemn Fast, Wednesday, March
27, 1644." It is taken from volume one of Gillespie's two volume Works ($29.99 P, $65.00 HP). It gives great insight into the
covenanted unity, uniformity and worldwide Reformation sought by the majority
of the Westminster Divines and the best of the civil leaders of Gillespie's
day. Gillespie searchingly deals with the individual, the church and the state,
while painting a Scriptural picture of prophesied earthly victory (Isa. 2:2-5,
Ezek 47:1-12, etc.) -- in classic historicist postmillennial style -- which is
sure to stir even the coldest Christian heart. He shows how the worst disease
the land can suffer is corruption in religion (particularly as exhibited in
false worship), rebukes those opposing the Solemn League and Covenant and calls
upon all to maintain (and even improve upon) the Reformation attainments
"whereunto we have already attained" (Phil. 3:16). It is also
interesting to note, especially since this sermon was preached before civil
rulers, that though Gillespie points out the need for humility, repentance,
prayer, tears, godly affections, sanctified minds and honorable actions, he
does not forget to mention the importance of a covenanted army in this great
cause of Christ's covenanted Reformation. Also noted is the destruction of
Antichrist, the calling and conversion of the Jews (Rom. 11), the two witnesses
and the 1260 year apostasy. Gillespie closes with an appeal to the English
House of Commons, with whom the Scots had "joined in covenant and in
arms," to be faithful "according to the word he (God--RB) hath
covenanted with you (i.e. in the Solemn League and Covenant--RB), so his spirit
remaineth among you" -- exhorting these magistrates to "fear
not" but to "be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his
might." This is classic Covenanter preaching, among the best sermons you
may ever hear!

Reformation's Refining Fire; or, Iconoclastic Zeal
Necessary to World Reformation
This sermon, read by elder Lyndon Dohms, was originally preached to the House
of Lords in the abbey church at Westminster during the days of the Westminster
Assembly (on August 27, 1645). It deals with Malachi 3:2 and can also be found
in volume one of Gillespie's Works. The
reading is approximately 80 minutes in length and for content this is likely the
best sermon that we have ever carried. The
glory of Christ is magnified in a soul stirring manner and at a level which is
seldom (if ever) reached in our day. Though preaching before some of the most
powerful men of his day, Gillespie does nothing to shave off the sharp edges of
the whole counsel of God. He makes it abundantly clear that spiritual
Reformation (individual, ecclesiastical and civil) is like a flaming fire which
burns the dross of the flesh and is often hated and opposed by those that cry
loudest for "Reform." On the other hand, the refining fire of
Reformation which pleases God (and comes from His fatherly hands, filled with
mercy, love and grace), not only turns his wrath from the nations (by granting
the grace to remove the causes of His wrath), but invigorates the spirit with
that iconoclastic zeal against sin (whether personal or corporate) that can
only be produced by His sovereign power. Whole-hearted (covenanted) reformation
is contrasted, throughout this sermon, with the half-hearted comfortable
Christianity that has been common in most ages. Gillespie wields the sword of
Scripture as few can in driving home a multitude of vitally important points.
This sermon can be listened to over and over with increasing profit, as it
contains a fullness which is almost impossible to absorb in just one sitting.
Don't miss this one; it is a real gem!

GILLESPIE, GEORGE
Wholesome Severity Reconciled With Christian Liberty

documents concerning matters of conscience, liberty, law, and government. Read
on cassette for the first time ever! This item is also available in printed
format as a bound photocopy. (2 cassettes) $7.96
The Progress of Divine Providence (2 cassettes, 1645,
1998)
William Gouge was one of the many English Covenanters who swore the Solemn
League and Covenant. He also sat in the Westminster Assembly. This sermon (read
by Lyndon Dohms) was preached in the days of the sitting of this Assembly
(Sept. 24, 1645), before the House of Peers assembled in the English
Parliament, during a public fast. It is also available in printed form ($5.98
P, $15.00 HP). Here Gouge encourages the civil rulers in their duty as nursing
fathers (Isa. 49:23) to the church -- in furthering the covenanted Reformation
of his day. Much attention is also paid to Reformation eschatology as it is
witnessed in the unfolding of history according to God's decree. Gouge offers
great encouragement to Christians living in evil times, as he points to the day
when "the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the
LORD, as the waters cover the sea" (Hab. 2:14); demonstrating throughout
how the gospel continues to march forward to triumph over the forces of
darkness -- with special attention to the manner in which God was using the
second Reformation to crush both the civil and ecclesiastical beasts of
Revelation. Gouge was a postmillennialist and historicist, and he defends this
position from Scripture (and history) throughout this sermon. This is a good
example of the type of preaching that fueled the Puritan revolution in the
British Isles in the mid-seventeenth century.

Why God Sends Trials Upon His People (1660)
Read by Lyndon Dohms from the sermon "A Cry From the Dead" ($5.99 P,
$16.00 HP). This was the last sermon Guthrie preached before he was martyred
for the covenanted cause of Christ. His own words on resisting sin unto blood (from
this sermon) were thus seen to be incorporated into the faithful practice of
this courageous Covenanter less than a week after he preached them. Contains
many amazing insights on why God sends trials upon His people and how we can
profit from them.

Covenanting and God's Blessing and Wrath
A sermon based on: "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely
mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it
will I recompense upon his own head" (Ezek. 17:19). This is certainly
among the best sermons you will hear explaining the basis of biblical
covenants, the specifics of covenanting, and God's responses to covenant
keepers and covenant breakers. The portion answering objections to the Solemn
League and Covenants is just classic! If you didn't know that Guthrie was
addressing objections during his day (this sermon was originally delivered in
1663) you would think that this message was preached just yesterday -- for most
of the objections are still common in our day. Great (and irrefutable) use of
Scripture is made throughout. This sermon is read by ruling elder Lyndon Dohms
from the book Sermons in Times of Persecution in Scotland, by Sufferers for
the Royal Prerogatives of Jesus Christ
($39.00 HP, $27.86 P). John Guthrie's older brother was William Guthrie, author
of The Christian's Great Interest
(which book also contains a fine chapter "Concerning Personal Covenanting
With God in Christ"). John Guthrie was ejected "on that memorable
year (1660--RB) in which about 400 ministers (in Scotland--RB) were thrust from
their charges because they could not recognize the unscriptural authority
claimed by the king, and consent to the overthrow of the covenanted
constitution of the nation" (Sermons..., p. 659). He was later condemned by the
"authorities" to be executed for his faithfulness to the covenanted
cause, but the Lord took him home (in 1668) before the rage of the oppressor
could reach him. This sermon, like others from Sermons in Times of Persecution
in Scotland has that special quality about
it that most often seems present among those that live for Christ when much is
at stake. When ministers are keenly aware that they teeter on the edge of
eternity (and that their faith may cost them their lives, limbs, family,
possessions, etc.) special unction from the Lord is often present. This sermon
is obviously no exception.

James Stewart & John Knox: Scotland's "Two Sons
of Oil" (excerpted from John Howie's Scots Worthies, 1781 ed.; audio cassette, narrated by Larry Birger,
Jr.)
As Birger accurately observes in his introduction to this one-tape
reformational powerhouse, "One great reason the Church is so weak and
divided today is precisely because she has rejected these commandments of her
Lord and Husband [to walk in the footsteps of the flock (Song 1:8), and to seek
out and walk in the old paths (Jer. 6:16)]. Forgetting the works of God in
history, she has thus become an easy prey to the old lies and idolatries of the
Roman Catholic Church, that whore of Babylon, such that so-called Protestantism
today in many ways bears more resemblance to the Roman Church than to the
biblical churches of the Reformation. We are indeed ignorant of our history,
and therefore have been doomed time and again to repeat its mistakes." He
continues, pointing to one of God's powerful remedies for our sinful failings
in this area: "Our gracious Lord has nonetheless provided a way out for
us, by preserving for us the narratives of His great works in history, as well
as His infallible Word by which to judge which are truly the good old paths....
On this tape you'll hear of the lives of two men who exemplified the work of
Christ's 'Two Witnesses' in Scotland, James Stewart, Earl of Moray, and John
Knox. These 'Two Sons of Oil,' like their ancient predecessors, Zerubbabel and
Joshua, illustrate the holy beauty and mighty effectiveness of God's
institutions of Scriptural civil magistracy and gospel ministry. We see from
their high regard for one another and from the work they accomplished in the
Lord how both righteous civil rulers and faithful gospel ministers are
necessary for true and lasting, society-changing reformation. In our age of
ungodly toleration and pretended liberty of conscience (as opposed to the true
Scriptural liberty of conscience promoted by these two eminent reformers), the
emphasis is generally laid upon the ministry only as the agent of reformation
-- and truly, there will be no lasting reformation without a faithful ministry.
Nevertheless, we see from the Scriptural examples of Hezekiah, Josiah, and
other godly rulers, as well as from various instances throughout subsequent
history that the civil rulers are called by, and used by, God to promote and
protect the welfare of His Bride, the Church. These rulers have no authority in
matters of religion, but they have a responsibility about matters of religion
-- to do things like suppressing and uprooting heresy, blasphemy, and idolatry,
and encouraging and promoting faithful ministers -- as all our faithful
Reformed forefathers taught." Learn with excitement how God used these two
faithful men to defeat Antichrist in Scotland, and purify and unify His
faithful Church there. A great tool for seeing the vital importance of the
civil government (as well as the ministry) in reformation!

LOVE, CHRISTOPHER
Taking Heaven By Storm
(5 Sermons on 4 Cassettes or 5 Videos)
Read by Elder Lyndon Dohms, these sermons
are taken from Love's Zealous Christian Taking Heaven By Holy Violence ($7.98 P, $19.00 HP). Love was a
Covenanted English Presbyterian who was beheaded by Cromwell's soldiers.
Ultimately, Love was executed
for His faithfulness to the cause of Christ and the Solemn League and Covenant -- a covenant that Cromwell (who we call
"the Judas of the Covenant") swore and then broke repeatedly. Portions of the testimony Love gave just
before he was martyred preface these sermons. The sermons themselves are classic examples of Puritan preaching,
dealing with the Christian life at various levels not often heard in modern
preaching. Here Love
teaches us to be moderate in the indifferent things of this world, but not in
the things of the Lord -- as we are exhorted to be on fire for the kingdom of
heaven. This set contains five sermons, with two sermons included on the last
cassette.

All Things Work For Good ($7.96, 2 cassettes) Read by Elder Lyndon Dohms. Many popular misconceptions
surround Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good
to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his
purpose" -- and Manton explodes them all in classic Puritan style. He
shows that sin does not do good as sin, but as it is repented of. He gives many
reasons why the word "all" in Romans 8:28 must be limited by the
analogy of faith (as Calvinists rightly limit the word "all" in
regard to soteriology when it is warranted -- or as when a conductor shouts "all
aboard," but only lets those who have tickets on the train). Furthermore,
Manton deals with the misuse of providence and shows why suffering is good for
those who are soft-hearted (or who are softened by it); but he also notes how
suffering can be a curse to those who harden their hearts in such situations.
He speaks of pleasure as "the great sorcerer enchanting mankind" and
shows why God gives some over to their lusts. At one point he counters the
reprobate's view of the problem of evil, answering the question "If there
is an all-powerful God how is there evil?" with "If there is no God
how is there good?" There is much to ponder and meditate upon in these
notably outstanding and practical sermons taken from Manton's Works (Sermon 37). Though this review may seem to dwell on the
polemical value of this work, Manton's preaching always has much which all the
lovers of the Lord Jesus Christ will find very heartening and encouraging.
David's Covenanting Our Duty Also ($7.96, 2 cassettes) Read by Elder Lyndon Dohms. Manton was a covenanted
English Presbyterian (he swore the Solemn League and Covenant). He was also
chosen to write the "Epistle to the Reader" in the Westminster
Confession of Faith (which speaks volumes as to his credibility among the
preachers and scholars of his day). Sermons like this show us the great depth
of the knowledge that was prevalent during the covenanting period, not only in
Scotland, but in England also.
Sanctification, Perfection and Scripture ($3.98, 1
cassettes) Read by Elder Lyndon Dohms.
Another testimony to the plethora of powerful sermons that were being preached
by the covenanted English Presbyterians of the mid-seventeenth century. This
sermon should do much to encourage all saints to seek after holiness -- with
all their heart, soul, strength and mind.

The Excellence and Worth of the Gospel (c. 1640)
This sermon is read by elder Lyndon Dohms (1998) and taken from the book Quaint
Sermons of Samuel Rutherford ($24.00 HP,
$14.98 P). It proclaims the power of the gospel for pulling down all
strongholds raised against it. It exhibits God's sovereignty while blasting the
Arminian heresy and toppling its vaunted idol of "free will." It demonstrates
how the gospel is a love letter from God to His elect and how the Lord's arrows
always hit their mark (particular redemption, irresistible grace, etc.).
Rutherford also delineates the marks by which one can be assured that a work of
grace has been begun in the heart by God. Hypocrisy is also exposed in the most
pointed manner. The place of the law and the gospel in salvation are given.
True repentance is contrasted with false repentance, as is true assurance with
false assurance, plus much more. A very practical sermon from one of the
greatest preachers and theologians of all time, exhibiting why Rutherford is
considered a protesting Covenanter of the first rank.

The Forlorn Son: The Father's Expressed Welcome
This sermon, read by elder Lyndon Dohms (1998), is taken from the book Quaint
Sermons of Samuel Rutherford ($24.00 HP,
$14.98 P). It is the fifth in this series by Rutherford and focuses on God's
love, His willingness to forgive, prayer, faith and repentance. It rebukes
antinomianism and contrasts the splendor of Christ's royal bounties with the
vanities of the world and the emptiness of sin.

The Forlorn Son: The Father's Welcome
In this sermon Rutherford charts God's magnificent ocean of love, mercy and
forgiveness (as granted to repentant sinners, 2 Tim. 2:25); marking out those
strong undercurrents of sovereign grace that constantly run throughout these
great seas. The section on the prodigal son's prayer is just classic -- as
Rutherford sails into the deep waters of Scriptural exposition. Here he
combines his expositional adroitness with a knowledge of practical holiness
which can only stem from a mature experience of enjoying those calm seas of sun-filled
communion with Christ -- known only by those ravished with His love. "Thou
hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with
one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck. How fair is thy love, my sister,
my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine
ointments than all spices!" (Song 4:9-10). Those who have agonized over
holiness, truth and God's "dark" providences (especially under
persecution and trial) will recognize some familiar waters of prayer here also
-- waters often traversed amidst the roaring waves and the great and tumultuous
tempests of restless seas. Also covered are some extremely convicting
Scriptural observations aimed at hypocrites (feigning Christianity or just
outright deceived) as well as those unregenerate moralists who (in the
blindness of the natural state) think that they have no need of a Saviour. But
most of all, this sermon (read by elder Lyndon Dohms [1997] and taken from the
book Quaint Sermons of Samuel Rutherford
[$24.00 HP, $14.98 P]), exalts Christ's willingness to forgive all the
"prodigal sons" which return to Him with a sincere heart of
repentance. A beauty, by one of the masters in Israel -- don't miss this one!

The Forlorn Son: The Grounds Why He Came Home and His
Prayer
Though you think that you may know the story of the prodigal son, it is almost
certain that you will learn much from listening to Rutherford's preaching on
this portion of Scripture. Here the glory of God is contrasted with the sin and
misery of wayward men -- while it is shown to be a part of God's glory to
forgive the wicked and sinful, as they are granted repentance though His grace.
False repentance is exposed; a glimpse of the state of those in hell is given;
the mercy of God is exalted; heart holiness is promoted; and encouragement to
pray big prayers is given. This sermon is read by elder Lyndon Dohms (1997) and
taken from the book Quaint Sermons of Samuel Rutherford ($24.00 HP, $14.98 P).

The Forlorn Son: He Was Lost and Is Found
This sermon, read by elder Lyndon Dohms (1998), is taken from the book Quaint
Sermons of Samuel Rutherford ($24.00 HP,
$14.98 P). It exalts Christ's kindness, mercy and grace to those who turn to
Him in whole-hearted repentance. Man's depravity, God's sovereignty and the
hypocrisy and idolatry of dead works are also dealt with.

The Forlorn Son -- Introduction
Christ exalting, extremely convicting and a remedy to backsliding! Rutherford
here delves into Luke 15:11-12: "And he said, A certain man had two sons:
And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of
goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living." Contains
much excellent teaching on personal piety, the visible Church and the
forgiveness of Christ. Probably preached about 1640, when the Scotch army was
in England. This sermon is read by elder Lyndon Dohms (1997) and taken from the
book Quaint Sermons of Samuel Rutherford
($24.00 HP, $14.98 P).

The Forlorn Son Seeks Away From His Father
In this sermon Rutherford shows how sin always brings unhappiness and warns
Christians against flirting with even the smallest of sins. He answers why Adam
sinned (from the supralapsarian position), explains why the Lord allows
Christians to fall into sin and gives us an overview of the Calvinistic view of
sanctification. How and why God punishes sin and sinners -- in history and on
earth -- is also dealt with. This sermon is read by elder Lyndon Dohms (1997)
and taken from the book Quaint Sermons of Samuel Rutherford ($24.00 HP, $14.98 P).

The Forlorn Son: Concluding Sermon
This sermon, the last in a series of seven (by Rutherford) on the prodigal son,
is read by elder Lyndon Dohms (1998) and taken from the book Quaint Sermons
of Samuel Rutherford ($24.00 HP, $14.98
P). Here Rutherford contrasts true gospel obedience with that which is false
and hypocritical. While encouraging faithful covenanters to persevere -- no
matter how hard the practical covenanted path or opposition to the way of truth
becomes -- Rutherford also comments on the biblical way to handle the scorn
that the world and hypocrites always heap upon those they call
"separatists" and "puritans."

The Day of Judgment
This sobering message (based on 2 Cor. 5:10), is read by elder Lyndon Dohms
(1998) and was originally preached circa 1678 in the parish of Cathcart. It is
taken from A Collection of Very Valuable Sermons Preached On Several
Subjects and In Divers Places in the Time of the Late Persecution ($4.48 P, $14.00 HP) collected by John Howie (1780
edition). It is excellent for use as an evangelistic tool and/or to spur
Christians on to greater sanctification and zeal. Hammers home the idea
encapsulized in the following rhyme: "Only one life -- it will soon be past,
only what is done for Christ will last." Also helps one to live their life
in the light of the great day of judgment, when we will all stand before God,
"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one
may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done,
whether it be good or bad" (2 Cor. 5:10). This John Welch was "a
Covenanting field-preacher. The grandson of John Welsh of Ayr and a
great-grandson of John Knox... in 1647 he gathered as many as ten thousand hearers...
he refused to hold meetings in the parishes of those ministers who had accepted
the Indulgence. In spite of his reputation, the frequency, duration and public
nature of his preaching, and a large price on his head, Welsh was never
apprehended and retiring to London after Bothwell Bridge, died in peace"
(David Lachman in the Dictionary of Scottish Church History & Theology, p. 861 [$97.96, Hardcover]).

Heartwork, Assurance and National Judgment
Although Welwood focuses on personal sanctification, searching out the
differences between hypocrites and true believers, he does not leave national
issues untouched. He shows how God's anger builds in the life of backsliding
individuals, churches and nations and how sometimes faithful individuals are
swept away in the deluge that ensues as God's wrath is poured out upon the
earth. The situation in Scotland at the time of this sermon (c. 1678) provides
a perfect example illustrating this point. The forces of Antichrist (Royalist
and Prelatical) were hounding the faithful Covenanters and many were suffering
(even unto death) on account of their faithfulness to second Reformation
attainments and covenant engagements (in the battle for the crown rights of
King Jesus). At this point Welwood seeks to comfort and strengthen those saints
suffering under the hand of these wicked, persecuting, "incarnate
devils" -- as Welwood calls them. Occasional hearing, unlawful authorities
in church and state and neutrality in the cause of Christ are all sternly
rebuked. There is great edification here as this sermon encourages the
Christian in his unrelenting battle against sin and defection (individually and
in his duties relative to the church and state). This sermon is read (by Ruling
Elder Lyndon Dohms) from the book Sermons in Times of Persecution in
Scotland, by Suffers for the Royal Prerogatives of Jesus Christ ($27.86). Regarding the preacher, this arresting account
of one of Welwood's last sermons is recounted in Sermons in Times of
Persecution,
Preaching at Boulterhall, in Fife, from the text, "not
many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are
called," he remarked toward the conclusion, "If that unhappy Prelate
Sharp die the death of all men, God never spoke by me" (Sharp was an
ex-Resolutioner turned Prelate, who became archbishop of St. Andrews -- from
his position as President of the notorious Court of High Commission he played a
major role in the merciless persecution and slaughter of the Covenanters -- RB).
A servant of the Archbishop was one of the audience, having come with a brother
with whom he had been sojourning who lived in the neighbourhood. The livery of
the servant attracted the notice of the preacher, who concluded, and rightly
too, that he was in the Prelate's service. Having, after the sermon was ended,
desired this man to stand up, as he had a message to deliver to him, Welwood
proceeded to say:--"I desire you, before all these witnesses, when thou
goest home, to tell thy master that his treachery, tyranny, and wicked life are
near an end, and his death shall be at once sudden, surprising, and bloody; and
as he hath thirsted after and shed the blood of the saints, he shall not go to
his own grave in peace." When Sharp was informed of these words of the
minister he made light of them, but his wife said, "I advise you to take
more notice of that, for I hear that these men's words are not in vain"
(pp. 340-341).
FOXE, JOHN
Acts & Monuments or Foxe's Book
of Martyrs (c.
1554; 8 volumes, 1843-49 edition)
"No book ever inflicted a wound so deep
and incurable on the Romish system of superstition and bloody persecution... (it) was placed in... all churches and
chapels throughout the kingdom, by order of Queen Elizabeth." (Smith, Select
Memoirs [$US19.99 P;
$US29.00 HP], p. 245). Contains
much information not found in any of the liberally edited & severely
shortened editions of this classic work which are in print today. Covering martyrs from the early church
through to Foxe's day, it was one of the most influential books of the
sixteenth century! It
overflows with faith building testimony of the power of God to overcome the
most cruel and barbarous acts of human depravity and demonic cruelty. 6890
pages. A very rare set,
now back in print after 150 years!
