The Covenanted Reformation Defended Against
Contemporary Schismatics
by Greg Barrow (Greg Price, Reg Barrow and Larry Birger) The best contemporary book on true
biblical unity! This book, of over 300 [8.5" X 11"] pages, is also
offered as a cerlox bound photocopy [$14.98 US funds] or a Hardcover photocopy
OUT OF PRINT [$25.00 US funds].)
International Covenanted Reformation
or Schism? (A Reply to Doug Wilson) by Reg Barrow
The Biblical and Logical Necessity of
Uninspired Creeds
by Larry Birger, Jr. (A
humorous and instructive dialogue between Hans [a paleopresbyterian] and Franz
[a neopresbyterian], demonstrating the absolute necessity of uninspired creeds.
Hans shows Franz that Franz's rejection of uninspired creeds is itself an
uninspired creed.)
Of Uniformity In Religion, Worship of
God, and Church Government
by George Gillespie.
(Discusses some foundational biblical truths which were sharply brought to
public notice during the covenanted Reformation of the mid seventeenth century.
Excerpted from George Gillespie's Works, volume 2, Chapter 15, "A Treatise of Miscellany
Questions," pp. 82-85. Gillespie was one of the Scottish commissioners to
the Westminster Assembly. He was (and is) also considered by many as one of the
most influential men in attendance at this international gathering of renowned
biblical scholars, though he was the Assembly's youngest member. He authored
many splendid and nation shaking books including A Dispute Against English
Popish Ceremonies, Wholesome
Severity Reconciled with Christian Liberty and Aaron's Rod Blossoming; or, The Divine Ordinance of
Church Government Vindicated.
The last work, Aaron's Rod Blossoming, being one of the all time classics on the relationship
between church and state.)
The Reformed View of Schism by Andrew Clarkson. (The Reformers often said "that to
avoid schism we must separate." This should give the perceptive reader
some indication of how badly misunderstood the biblical teaching regarding
schism and separation (which should be differentiated in many ways) has become
in our day. Sadly, some of the most anti-Reformed work on this subject has been
written by contemporary individuals, who, though calling themselves Reformed,
"understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm" (1
Tim. 1:7). This excerpt from Clarkson's Plain Reasons for Presbyterians
Dissenting should
contribute much to correcting the promotion of unbiblical ecumenism and place
this doctrine back on its Scriptural foundation -- which was recovered during
the Reformation. Clarkson cites Beza, Rutherford, Gillespie, Dickson, Durham,
McWard (Rutherford's "disciple"), Marshal, Watson, Owen, Burroughs,
and many others, while defending the truth about schism. Objections brought
against the Reformation view of schism are also carefully answered. This is
probably the single best short treatment of this subject.)

Toleration and Covenanting by John Brown (of Haddington) A summary of Brown's The Absurdity
and Perfidy of All Authoritative Toleration of Gross Heresy, Blasphemy,
Idolatry, Popery, in Britain: In two letters to a friend in which the doctrine
of the Westminster Confession of Faith relative to Toleration of a False
Religion, and the power of the civil magistrate about sacred matters; and the nature,
origin, ends and obligation of the National Covenant and Solemn League are
candidly represented and defended
(1797, 1803 edition).
Whether it be lawful, just, and
expedient, that the taking of the Solemn League and Covenant be enjoined by the
Parliament upon all persons in the kingdom under a considerable penalty by George Gillespie (CHAPTER XVI. of "A Treatise of
Miscellany Questions," pp. 85-88 from The Works of George Gillespie volume 2, Still Waters Revival Books
reprint. Includes "Nine particulars to be remembered for the right
deducing and stating the matter of fact. - The grounds and reasons of such an
ordinance and appointment may be eleven. - Four objections answered. - How this
ordinance would not be tyranny over men's consciences. - The covenant is no

Communion Catechism (1592) by John Craig "John Craig (1512-1600) was a
Scottish reformer. Previously a Dominican Friar, Craig was converted to the
Protestant Faith. The Roman Inquisition condemned Craig to death, yet he
escaped and returned to Scotland. In 1560, Craig became co-pastor with John
Knox in Edinburgh. Later, Craig became a chaplain to James VI. At the direction
of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Craig composed this
catechism, which was subsequently approved by the Assembly in 1592" (Kevin

Bacon Bits: Richard Bacon's Straw Man
"Steelite Controversy" Torched By Faithful Covenanters (Sometimes
Called Cameronians, Steelites, etc.) by Greg Price, Larry Birger, et al. (These short "Bacon Bits" are
not meant to be a full response to the sectarians in Rowlett (who oppose the
Covenanted Reformation and uniformity found in the public subordinate standards
and covenants emitted and upheld by the Westminster Divines -- all which are
agreeable to and based upon the alone infallible standard, the Word of God). A
full length response is being prepared, to Dick Bacon's Defense Departed, by Greg Barrow and will be released in
the near future (D.V.). These "Bacon Bits" merely cover some of the
more obvious blunders, poor scholarship and misrepresentations of Bacon, one of
the chief malignants of our day. It may also be interesting for the reader to
note that though we had to be informed of Bacon's attack upon our positions
through a third party (as was the case with Brian Schwertley's attack, i.e.
neither Bacon or Schwertley had the courage to send their attacks on us to us
directly), we have always responded directly to both parties (Bacon and
Schwertley). As of yet Dick Bacon has not contacted us directly in response to
any of what follows.)

The Visible Church: Essence Versus
Lawful Form by
Larry Birger, Jr.
(Discusses Calvin's and the Westminster Confession's view of the visible
church, exhibiting the vital distinction between that which is necessary to the
being of the visible
church and that which is necessary for the well-being of the visible church. Clearly exposes
the erroneous notion that the government of the church equals the church. Calvin listed this as a fundamental difference
between Protestants and Papists, indicating that the multitude of churches in
our current apostasy are (as to their form or constitution) daughters of the
Roman Catholic whore (Rev. 17:5). Because they have not followed in the
footsteps of the flock (Song 1:8), but instead are walking in the adulterous
ways of their (constitutional) mother, these churches are schismatic. Birger
concludes with 13 Scripture commands to separate from such denominations who
themselves have separated from the company of the faithful.)

by Andrew Clarkson (An
exceedingly rare and important book now back in print after 265 years! The Contending
Witness magazine [May,
1841] described Plain Reasons
"as the single best volume penned defending the principles of the
second Reformation."
It sets forth "the grounds why Presbyterian Dissenters refused to hold
communion with the revolution church and state," [Reformed Presbytery, Act
Declaration and Testimony for the Whole of Our Covenanted Reformation, p. 154n]. The biblical principles
contained in this book still apply today and thus Plain Reasons remains one of the best books explaining
why [and when] an individual [church or citizen] should separate himself [or
itself, as a corporate moral person] from those [in church or state] who do not
hold fast to all the attainments of our covenanted Reformation forefathers. In this file you will find the complete
table of contents, the preface and the first reason for dissent. Lord willing,
other sections will follow in time. The table of contents is very valuable as
it lays out in summary [and with a fair amount of detail] the whole scope of
the book. It can serve as a kind of summary of second Reformation thought
concerning the church, state, separation, schism, worship, civil dissent,
church planting, opposition to idolatry and tyranny, and much more!)

the NT application of case law and penal sanctions, liberty of conscience and
many other important issues related to the covenanted Reformation. One of our
most rare and valuable resources. A masterpiece! Wholesome Severity was written during the sitting of the
Westminster Assembly and demonstrates why Gillespie is considered one of the
most influential Divines of the seventeenth century. Here we have the question
stated (regarding liberty of conscience), the middle (or biblical) way
between Popish tyranny and Schismatizing liberty approved, and also confirmed from Scripture, with
the testimonies of Divines, yea of whole churches added to vindicate Christ's
kingship [over the idolatry of the rule of an ill-informed, sinful conscience
sitting in judgement upon the truth of the Word of God]. The chief arguments of
exception used in [Roger Williams] The Bloudy Tenet, The Compassionate Samaritane, M.S. to A.S. etc. are examined herein and Gillespie
also deals with many of the thorny questions related to the abiding validity of
the Old Testament judicial laws. Eight distinctions are added for qualifying
and clearing the whole matter. In conclusion, a moving brotherly appeal is
addressed to the five Apologists (Independents at the Assembly) for choosing
accommodation rather then toleration. This is classic Scottish (covenanted)
Presbyterianism at its best, a work that can be read over and over with
increasing profit! This exceedingly rare essay is not found in Gillespie's Works or The Presbyterian Armoury, however it is also available on two
cassettes [for $4.77] or as a rare bound photocopy [$7.49] from Still Waters

I John 4:7 (#18) Worldwide
Calvinistic Unity and Loving One Another (1997)
An amazing sermon which exposes all unity which is not based on truth (e.g. in
groups like Promise Keepers) as necessarily based on lies -- and as treason
against King Jesus! Defends the Reformation view of visible and covenanted
unity and uniformity from Scripture, and from pertinent quotes from Calvin
(during first Reformation), Henderson (the second Reformation architect of the
Solemn League and Covenant), and others. Exhibits how Reformed teaching has
always viewed the real schismatics (whether in the majority or minority) as
those who press "independent denominationalism" and as those who
tolerate a sinful multiformity -- against the national establishment of the one
true Reformed religion. Calvin and the Geneva Presbytery of his day even
counseled excommunication and exile for those that would not swear to their
"covenanted uniformity" in upholding the Geneva Confession of 1536 (cf. Calvin, Covenanting and Close
Communion by Reg
Barrow). Moreover, Price shows how our scandalous modern multiformists (which
includes the leaders of most so-called "conservative Presbyterian"
denominations today) teach and act in direct opposition to Christ's high
priestly prayer in John 17, as well as the high standard of visible unity that
will one day be attained worldwide (as seen in the prophetic words found in
Zechariah 14:9: "And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that
day shall there be one LORD, and his name one"). Furthermore, the portion
of this sermon dealing with loving the brethren is one of the most convicting
practical sections of a contemporary sermon that we have ever heard. Such
preaching is extremely humbling, calculated to exalt Christ and His truth, and
to drive sinful human beings to the throne of grace -- seeking everlasting
mercy and forgiveness in the only place that it can truly be found. In short,
Price calls us back to our first love (individually) and to the biblical
attainments of our
covenanted forefathers (corporately). It is unlikely that you will find modern
preaching much better than this.

"I
have been systematically working through reading the Puritan and Reformed CDs I
purchased.
I must say, there is nothing like them
available anywhere.
It is the most amazing collection of works I
know of in one package to date.
In
my opinion, it far surpasses Ages Software and their collections.*
The
Puritan and Reformed material presented on these CDs is exceptional.
I
am continually amazed at the depth and breadth of information in both
collections, and the rarity of works that I now have at my fingertips.
You
have done an immeasurable service for the Kingdom of Christ in making these CDs
available, and every pastor and theologian should own them without question
(they would be foolhardy to pass them by)."

* It is SWRB's
opinion that Ages has done an excellent job in making various Reformed works
available on CD, so much so that we also distribute a number of their CDs at
discounts. Thus, please don't make more out of our publishing this comment than
is warranted, as this is a comment we received from one of our customers and it
expresses his opinion. As for Ages' work, we rejoice whenever the truth is
published, whether through others or through SWRB (as we play only a very small
part in the revival of classic Reformation, Puritan and Covenanter thought that
is now taking place worldwide through God's marvelous grace). The publication
of the best Reformers and Puritans of the past is one of the greatest needs of
our time, as this extends the blessings that come through faithful preachers
and authors into our day and into the future. Lord willing, the growth in the
publishing of faithful works from the past will help stem the tide of the great
declension and unfaithfulness which we are now witnessing all around us, even
(sadly) among many churches that still call themselves "Presbyterian"
and/or "Reformed." So please pray together with us that our Lord will
multiple the number of faithful publishers and publications, and that He will
give many the heart to stand for the truth no matter the consequences (as He
has done for our faithful forefathers, who resisted Satan and sin unto blood
and even to martyrdom in many cases). -- RB.
"SWRB's
Puritan and Reformation CD libraries are an invaluable source for the study of
the history and theology of classic Reformation theology. The collection is
remarkable not only for depth of content, but also for the rarity of many of
the works. Most seminary libraries will not have even a percentage of the works
available on these CD-ROMs. I cannot imagine anyone working in Reformation /
historical theology that would not want to use the Puritan and Reformed
libraries!"

"I
just received your CD collection. One bit of advice: you should instruct your customers
to take about 1 week off just to peruse the tables of contents for
these CD's, followed by another week off, in order to recover from the
state of shock in which they will find themselves.
In
all seriousness, this collection is almost impossible to describe. It has to be
seen to be believed. As a pastor, my library has just increased
dramatically.
As a Ph.D. student in Puritan and Post-Reformation studies, I have immediate
access to many of the same works for which I would normally need to access through
rare book rooms of theological libraries.
Thank
you for this labor of love. Thank you for making it accessible, both
financially and technologically. May the Lord richly bless you for this service
to his people."

SWRB CD comment from Dr. Moore:
This
collection of 62 CDs is a truly astounding accomplishment. There is nothing
like this available to the ordinary Christian on the whole face of the earth.
Now,
for the first time ever, ordinary Christians can have direct and near
effortless access to the very cream of Puritan and Reformed, as well as
Covenanter, literature.
These
books are often in fascinating first editions and many are electronically
linked and indexed for the first time. The ordinary Christian may here dig
into a simply staggering wealth of literature, from devotional and sermonic
material to technical and scholarly works. Even in the days of the Long Reformation
itself ordinary Christians didn't get to see this kind of library -- most
couldn't read for a start, and even those who could, would never have been able
to afford to buy even a hundredth part of the material on these CDs. Truly we
are without excuse!
And
the significance of this collection goes even beyond that. No longer do we have
to wait for modern Reformed publishing houses to predict that a particular
Reformation or Puritan book will be sufficiently popular to make it economical
to reprint, or to deem it "safe" enough to be let loose on the modern
evangelical church. Rather, we are now able to see for ourselves the whole
range of the Puritan and Reformed publishing enterprise, including views that
are usually suppressed by most modern devotees of "Puritan" piety!
Buy
these CDs while you can, and find out for yourself what the First and Second
Reformations were really all about! You'll be truly amazed, and, by God's
grace, will grow from being an ordinary Christian to being an extraordinary
one. What they used to say of the Puritan John Flavel's preaching, can be
said of these CDs: they are "hissing hot"!
